Yes, it is absolutely true. And I have no reason not to share the story, (22 years later!) it is part of my life. Which has been absurdly rich, both up and down.

Edit: what is ironic is that now with all the time I spend in Peru, I could score a gram of 100% pure for between $8.00-$10.00. I simply stay the hell away from it, but what my friends do (recreationally) doesn't really bother me.

I haven't touched it, or even been tempted by it, since christmas day, 1985, when I almost died in a shithole hotel in the bronx, smoking base with one hand on the door of the hotel room, in case I keeled over. Powerful, powerful drug. One that I can never play with again. I got over it, and went on, I am actually thankful I went through all of that before college. I don't understand dabblers, and don't really know any successful ones that don't tip the see-saw a little too hard, as it were. Be careful out there, kids.
    wow dude, that is crazy.

i've always been a dabbler. not sure why or how, but i have always been able to do a little coke or smoke a pack of cigs on a big night out then not touch one for months.

for a while in college, after i broke my arm and couldnt row my senior year, i got pretty heavy into mushrooms and lsd. but then i decided i had enough and quit for a couple years. done both a few times since then, but never felt a need. at one time or another i tried most drugs, but the only ones i used frequently over long periods are alchohol and weed.

though now that i am old and boring i pretty much just get safe every now and then, couple times a month maybe. and since i married my drinking buddy we go get torn up at the bar once in a while.

my opinion is that everybody's body reacts differently to every drug. while i have been able to keep my drug use as a "hobby", i have had friends go over the top with weed, shrooms, and speed.

but coke and speed addics....bad news. it'll make your friends turn into liars and theives. don't trust them.

Not necessarily. It might be just being realistic. 100 a week is certainly a habit, and a significant one, but not an absurd one. There are certainly people who spend alot more than that. Put it this way, if you are talking about hardcore addiction, people who do it everyday, 100 probably won't go too far. Coke is pretty expensive. You might be able to do coke every weekend on 100 a week, but you won't be able to do it every night. Even so, if someone is doing blow every weekend that is nothing to treat lightly.

I've never seen meth or heroin, but I've seen plenty of coke, and more of my friends have had their lives negatively influenced by it than anything else I can think of.

Out of your list only 2 "substances" can actually kill you in a binge night: Coke and Alcohol. Unless you're doing shots with a vengeance the alcohol will likely cause you to pass out before you ingest a lethal dose. When you're on a snortin' rampage the more you do the more you want... it fuels itself. You say you're smiley and happy when you're doing lines - I would be at the beginning stage of partying as well. Then... the higher I got, the more I noticed if my line was 3 grains smaller than the next... if I was losing a turn to new people showing up... if I had paid more, etc.

I have no problems with shrooms or pot - hell, I still get safe several times a week. I am addicted to Cocaine. I haven't used it in almost exactly 15 years, and hopefully never will again, but when I did it scared me more than any other drug I tried. I sold my College Education and a piece of my soul to that substance, and through good friends, family, and - believe it or not: skiing - I managed to drive that monkey away.

Now, tell me again how one night of bumps doesn't mean anything.
i wasn't trying to equate cocaine with a big mac, i was just showing the poster that argueing that its not 'healthy' isn't much of an argument, lots of things we consume aren't healthy, can be addictive, and even kill us.. lots of people can use cocaine a couple times a month or a couple times a year without developing an addiction, some people get hooked right away.. everyones different.

This is very true. SOme people can use occasionally and have no problems. Others already have addictive personalities and are basically toast the first time they try anything. Also, people who are prediposed to mental illness, depression, Bi Polar etc.. can develope issues with even softer drugs. Put those people on heroin or coke, and it will take them to places nobody deserves to go.

what is the difference between a crackhead and a meth-head????

both of them will steal you're wallet, but the meth-head will spend hours helping you look for it.

I understand where you're coming from, but to put a value on how much a person spends a week on something like cocaine in a way that makes it some less dangerous if you only do a certain amount is laughable.

Of course $100 isn't a lot, but it still is over $5,000 a year for a high that is primarily done in solitude. I had friends that would do 3 eight balls a week...hell, if I took all the coke I was offered in the 4 short years in which I was around it all the time, it would probably fill up a pint glass...something to provide perspective. It wasn't until earlier this year that I decided to separate myself from that "scene" and surround myself in a more meaningful environment.

What's even more laughable is being told that I shouldn't judge someone by the fact that they need to blow lines secretly in bathrooms on a weekly basis.

I've never even seen cocaine up close and personal. Am I the only one? Interesting thread though. Seems like its possible to quit coke, even when highly addicted. Wish the same was true with meth. It really sucks watching people melt away from that shit.

I haven't seen it much, but mostly because I make a point to avoid it. The other night I was out with a bunch of friends and some random guy laid some out on the bar in Breck and the bartender wiped it off the counter with a towel before it could be consumed. We all thought that was pretty funny.

Well, since this thread was nominated for HOF status I figured you should know the outcome since there was a major development recently.

Yes, friend was coked out of his mind on the night in question.
No, there were no racoons physically present. Mentally present apparently is yes.
Yes, I stayed involved and tried to support as best I could.
No, I was not involved in the recent intervention.
Yes, he's going to Betty Ford for 3 months starting soon.
Yes, he wants to get his shit together.
Yes, he's hoping to bang Britney while he's down there.

What's the deal with coke? I know know the answer... it sucks.
