Question Movement Skis .... Up-to-date opinions?

I just came across an ad for Movement Skis tonight, having somehow never picked up on them before. I was drawn to the Goliath, Thunder, and Pow Pow/PP Ltd. After reading some opinions here, I got the sense that most of their earlier models were too stiff for most guys, but I'm thinking their mainstays might be good for me (6'2" 210, ski pretty hard, enjoying my Scot Schmidts now, going to Legend Pros).

Anyone have some more insight? Just hype? Too early to tell still?

    Cheers,
    Trip

    hi!

there have been no major changes in the thunder, powpow and powpow ltd. but i never thought they were SO stiff...
the powpow is maybe al little stiffer than a kneissl tanker imho.

the goliath looks really nice, but ive not skied them... feels stiffer then the legend xxl...

I'm also 6'2" and 210 and have teled with Pow Pows for 2 seasons. Think the skis are not stiff at all, the flex is nice medium one for big fellows but still way more forgiving than Stockli Stormrider DPs or Volkl Explosivs for instance. I just sold mine since they were not getting enough time because of some other new skis. Still think that those skis rock, perhaps have to try the Gladiators in the future.

Have also one friend that really rips with the Pow Pow swallowtails mounted with alpines, he is something like 5'9" and 160 and has no problems at all. Go figure. Just get'em and ride'em..

the thunder got way, way less stiff in the tip and tail and has a different construction than the early-model thunder.

afaik some of the really really early models were a lot stiffer than the current ones. i bought the gladiators (same dims as pow pow 183cm long), mounted at -1cm from line with freerides. have skied them 2 days so far, havent had the chance for much/any offpiste though.. they carve better than my seths but require more attention.. they are, of course, stiffer than the seths and more stable. FWIW, im 145lbs.

So, when are you gonna sell me those BD's?

Says a guy who just bought Titan Pros for 130 Eur . Gonna be a traitor and mount 'em with Solly 997's (which were free ).

I have been skiing the Goliath since last Jan. I LOVE IT, it is set up as my AT setup, but still rips on mountain. I don't think they are that stiff, I would rate the Goliath like a 250 Iggy, without quite that stiff of a tail. The Thunder is actually the stiffest ski they have, not much stiffer than the Goliath. I think the Thunder is the best skiing ski they make, just not fat enough (89mm). The Thunder just all around rip's, it would make possibly the sickest AT set up. The PowPow and Gladiator are quite a bit softer, maybe like a Elan 777 flex, VERY round and even tip/tail, but still a beefy feeling ski, yet easy to ski. The PowPow Ltd is a bit stiffer in the forebody of the ski and a softer tail, a snappier, more precise feeling version of the PowPow with a swallow. The Gladiator/PowPow/PowPowLtd are awsome everyday ski's (92mm waist). I have set up quite a few people on these skis already. The narrower models, Spark/Flame, and the womens models are not very stiff at all, I would not call them "soft" skis, but I have put intermediate skiers on them, and they love them. The womens Spicy (82mm) has been a big hit with the more aggresive women looking for an all around ski. I think the Black Rose would be selling well if they made shorter sizes, (175,185 only) I only know one woman who is charging on the 175 Black Rose (ie. wmn's Thunder), but she loves 'em.

    FYI:
For the '07-'08 line Movement is going to be focusing on more lengths in all models. Rumors; 100mm waist ski, 181 Goliath, 183 & 173 PowPow's

    Those are unconfirmed rumors

Also if anyone is looking for Demo's Colorado Freeride in Breck has 'em all

Way OT but damn you! Have been thinking those Goliaths also since liked tyhe Pow Pows so much. But for now going to stick with the BD's. Thou just got me those red 190 explosivs with buddha on them for way cheap. Used a lot but stil going strong, the skis are going to spend their retirement days with me. You know where got those from if you've been awake..

I'm taking the 191 Goliath out for a rip these next few days in Whistler and will be writing a review

Rumors re 181 Goliath are ... well founded (broad hint).

These are 2007 Goliaths mounted with Freeride Plus. Will try them with AT boots and with alpine boots; I', 165 lbs

Hehee this time I was the fastest slut around. I can keep you updated what's going on with those skis..

By the way, the lenght of the Movement skis is quite correct but the dimensions are just a little bit overestimated. For example my Pow Pows were a bit narrower than I expected from the shovel but few millimeters here and there makes no difference and might be also my bad.
Here is the picture of our skis from one session 2 seasons ago. ARVs 185cm, Pow Pows 193cm, Sets pistols 179cm and Ruckits 175cm I guess..

Anyone else have any feedback on the Black Rose?

I'm looking for a new "everyday" ski. I love, love, love my Gotamas (old sidecut), but they're a little big for all conditions. My Phat Luvs need to get replaced. So I want something 85-95 underfoot, 175-180ish in length (Goats are 183 and they're just fine, but I think they ski short), and I'm thinking that since I like the Gotama so much, even in bumps and such, maybe a similar, more minimal sidecut would be nice. Flexing them in the shop, the Black Rose seems like a good option? But they don't demo them, as so few women want a ski that long. I'm thinking maybe demoing the Thunder or Spicy to try and get an idea.

Hey ag, I've actually skied the black rose (while wearing heels and stockings on a sat nite ) in zermatt demos cause I wanted to try the thunders but they were never in. I was coming off lp's but even still I was surprised at how soft they skied relative to hand flex. I'm very much willing to be the thunders are similar in that way. Anyways, they're def a nice, stable and versatile ski (if not that exciting) that's also relatively lite to boot. Since you're a pretty ripping chica, you should seriously consider the thunder.

P.s. Hopefully we see some dominating beamer ball vs the gators!

Cool. They do have the 177 Thunder for demoing. (Of course, it's out for tomorrow, but at least I can check it out at some point). Maybe they'll have them in this weekend...
