    NOAA speaks

Ah, well I didn't see that NOAA prediction for 2 feet. So it wasn't a made up projection after all. Weird, though, I checked 4 other weather sources and none were as optimistic.

I'm surprised no one else was as skeptical as me in terms of the picture those snow phone reports paint. Maybe you're just more positive and upbeat.

We're all very skeptical of the snow phone reports. Search on "cohee" and you'll get the picture. But right now, we're willing to grasp at hope.

This just in: Alpine has rescheduled opening for Friday, December 1.

Sorry, just get a little edgy this time of year...I'm looking for anything to keep the sanity right now...even if its 5 days out! I know this is more than 5 days out, but freshly cut and pasted from squaw's web site:

Scheduled date for skiing and riding operations is Friday, December 1.

I understand your angst...we are alla little edgy/desperate for snow. i just took the dog on a 2 hour hike, that helps somewhat. then i am gonna head over to the blue coyetee @ 5 for the ND vs USC game and get drunk.

Hey freshies- You might make Truckee Local status in another 5 years. Until then, you're just a NEWBIE!

i just thought I'd apply a little anti-jinx to this shit show.
It ain't real till the Red Baron says it is, or I can ski the Wall with impunity. 12 inches of uber light pow isn't going to open much terrain. You need at least 3-feet of light pow or 1.5 feet of sierra cement to keep you off the shark's teeth. We still have a ways to go, but at this point, any storm is welcome.

I'm washing the car in the AM, parking in the drive, and daring the skys to put a spot on it.

face it. this storm will fizzle out by the time it hits tahoe or miss tahoe all together.
its going to be january before the coverage is good enough to open everything. i'm not trying to anti-jinx either. every storm of any size is north of the tahoe basin.
i'm not planning on more than 6 inches at a time until new years.

OK bastard bob, I might be a NEWBIE by "local" standards with only 10 years status, but remember, here on TGR you are a JONG

yeah, me too....after having met freshies, the spicoli avatar is so much more fitting than "da bears"....

and not to be selfish, but I hope next week blows, because I won't get the chance to ski until the weekend of the 9th....so hopefully the good shit will wait until then....

I really hope Intellicast's prognostication is wrong. They show the Tahoe area in a trough:

Amen. Doing the same thing. Hopefully that'll get Ullr pissed off enough to throw down some legendary wrath.

Oh, and I don't know how good of an omen this is, but one of the bartenders at Mt. Rose says her baby is a snow fairy, whose birthday is today... Apparently that means that we're in for a big dump?
Hopefully her dump is of the snow variety, though...

    ....one can only hope.

Anyone actually see flakes up there yet? It looks cold, but I can't tell much more than that... Skies look promising at least.

just did a trail run from 10 - 11 am in south lake. some cold winds and dark clouds here and there but no snow flakes right here. however looking over the airport toward Tallac there seemed to be some snow-dropping clouds wrapping the desolation wilderness.

actually, looking out the window right now i see one or two flakes blowing by. imagine 10 flakes falling on the area of a football field and you'll get an idea of the nukeage at lake level.
