Nordica Beast 92 as an everyday ski?

Did a bit of drunken bidding on eBay ans won some 188 Nordica 92s for a sweet price. The dimensions on this ski seem a little chubby for an everyday ski for me, since my ski days often include a full range of all conditions minus ice. I get in plenty of trees, skied out pow, some groomed, bumps. SkiBowl is my main haunt, but I'll get to Whistler, Crystal, Stevens, and Bachelor for a few days each this season. I generally conside the Atomic R:ex in a 184 a damn good everyday ski -- what did I get myself into?

yeah, they're a good every day ski on all but ice and very chopped up/heavy crud where they tend to bounce around a bit. they're pretty damn light, but still can carve nicely on the groomed too. be very careful about the mount point, search around here for the line on different editions.

I skied mine as an everyday ski until this year. Even at 188 they are light enough to move around in bumps, although I do have some chopped up edges on 1 pair from doing so too much.

I'm pretty big, so the chopped up crud still seems like a breeze to me with these skis, but they are a tad too narrow for heavy snow. They don't exactly have a lot of rebound in them either, but as long as your not skiing a slalom they will be fine on groomers too.

They're solid for everyday skiing. They've been my narrow ski for three seasons, and they carve well and have good rebound -- especially compared to other skis of that size.

If you weigh 200# or more, you can easily overpower them. The people I know who like them tend to be skinny, myself included.

Think of them as slightly stiffer wood-core Pocket Rockets (that don't lose their pop immediately) and you won't be far off.

Caveat: the first year skis were prone to edge compressions. I don't know if this has improved because I haven't skied my other pair enough to find out.

EDIT TO ADD: I had some Tyrolia slider bindings on mine so I could play with the mounting point. 1.5-2cm back was the sweet spot for me. The stock position is great for hard snow but too far forward in pow, and 3.5cm back made the tips feel really remote.

How far is -2cm from mark in terms of distance from mid point of running surface? I have the beast limited edition and have read that the mid point may have been moved back from the older 92TT version. However I did not find anyone who actually measured how far that is. I am just curious if it has been moved back. Thanks. --Tim
