    FS: Ortovox M2 Avalanche Beacon

This thing is BRAND NEW and unused, in retail packaging. I picked up one too many at a summer sale, so this one needs to find a new home.

It’s better for multiple burials in which each beacon stays on as it is found, since you can hear the different beacons.

Longest range of any beacon on the market! (twice the distance of Tracker and Mammut).

The #1 Beacon used by ski patrollers and guides worldwide.

    Ortovox M2 Avalanche Transceiver
    • Range up to 80m with digital/analog technology.
    • Shorter search time through microprocessor control.
    • Fool-proof on/off switch integrated into body belt.
    • Fail safe switch over to receive mode saves time.
    • Safe search for multiple victims by signal isolation.
    • Five year warranty.

    Retail is $309. Asking $270/obo

Did I read that right? So Mammut and BCA Tracker only have a range of 40m?

That's right, even less in fact...more like 25m, compared to 80m for the M2. Sure you'll fit in better with all the other noobs with their Trackers, but you WANT your friend to have this beacon if you're ever in a slide. It even comes in fashionable Pumpkin Orange, perfect for this Halloween season. You can read more here:

Keep in mind that those results are from 2002, and some minor changes have been made to the Tracker, as well as an overhaul of the M2.

According to BCA and Mammut the tracker has a 50m range and the Barryvox has a 60m range, The test you cited used the "old barryvox".

Dude, no beacon in real world situations will recieve a signal from 80m. I've seen F1's that barely pick a signal from 30 meters away. And Trackers that can't read sh*t from 15 meters away.

Dude, sounds like you're the beacon expert then. You shoulda helped with the test cuz they obvioulsy must have done something wrong.

Cool. Just curious and I didn't want to spend an hour researching. I've got an SOS that is analog that I've had for years that still works fine. It says it has as start range of 90m. But what it says and what it does are two different things.
