Does anyone make a soft shell one piece?

I really like my one piece suit, but I keep hearing how great this new soft shell stuff is. Does anyone make a soft shell one piece?

This should bring out some good 'fartbag' response. Where's that classic powder thread when you need it. I think there are some 1 piece softshells made for ice climbing out there. Check arteryx, north face mountain hardware. I've seen them but I don't remember.

for skiing it seems like it would be kinda pointless.

apart from the bogners and plaid parkrat one peices (which lets face it are like 95% of em) the point of a one peice is to basically be a fucking bomb shelter. I'd pretty much only consider using one if I was heli skiing or something. Now the point of a shoftshell is to be lightwieght, and super breathable. It just seems like they'd cancel out each others benifits.

Aside from the initial raucous laughter, marmot made an "action suit" that zipped together a year or two ago.

That sounds so much more gnar than one peice. In fact, I'm getting one.

Seriously though, I'd just get some bibs and a softshell jacket.

That Spyder Old Fred suit has got to be the coolest thing since KY Warming Gel.

A heli ski outfit up here had their guides in exclusively one piece softshell suits. I think they can be practical enough. They had them custom made out of the schoeller which at the time was the only stuff around. Since they were custom made I didn't bother to mention them.

I can't help thinking a one-peice softshell would just look like a baggy wetsuit

Do you mean softshell in terms of

    a) PolarTech Powershield (or whatever), stretchy-fleecy fabric.

    b) Really breathable material (more breathable than goretex) with some stretch. Like, made out of Schoeller or something?

If it's (a), then I am no help. Well... maybe not. Arc'Teryx makes the "Gamma Sallopette" which is a powershield union suit (legs and torso, but no arms).

If it's (b), then someone was selling a one-piece made by Wildthings in gear swap a week or so back. The suit was made out of "epic" fabric (I think). Check out the wildthings website for more info on that.

Also, Arc'Teryx makes something called the "Alpha SV suit" or at least they did back in 05. It's a softshell bottom with a hardshell top. Honestly, I don't see the advantage of buying the suit over seperate jacket and pants.

if you're looking for something pretty lightweight, check out the marmot alpine rock suit from a few years back. you can probably find them on ebay every now and again. it has a driclime windshirt top and scholler pants.

maybe the guys at www.beyondfleece.com will make a one-off for you. It doesn't hurt to ask 'em. They're pretty good with both Schoeller and PowerShield.
