Internet access to the requested website has been denied.....

On my computer screen for a particular website:

"Internet access to the requested website has been denied based on your user profile and organization's Internet Usage Policy."

So, does this mean my company is denying me access, but not someone else? WTF? It's past 5pm, and technically I was taking a break. So, WTF?

It probably means that the company has blocked all access through it's connection to the internet to that website.

It may or may not be targeted specifically at you, but likely is a result of them monitoring internet usage and deciding that that site either has no possible purpose that will enchance work or that it has the chance of being a negative impact on work.

Unfortunatly, surfing the internet from work is a privalege and many companies are very willing to revoke it in whole or in part.

    Welcome to netnanny hell.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

This kinda works for some sites but not so well for others, don't know about TGR because luckily I haven't had it blocked at work (yet).

...then type in whatever site you want to visit in the box.

If your company blocks that one too then google "circumventor" and try any of the other innocuously-named sites.

    uncool.

im not blocked at work yet either, but the MM web nannies run a service that blocks pretty much everything. No clue why TGR is still flying under the radar...but if you try to look up a zip code on the usps.com site? fuggetaboutit. Black screen of death.

My work has banned many of the sites I use and all proxy's I can think of. I was using "circumventor" from google (thanksBigKuba) which is also now banned. I don't have the rights to install any programes (I heard there was one you could use if you install.) If anyone knows any other ways to access the sites please let me know. Mainly if you know any other words like "circumventor" which can be googled to find a proxy.

FYI, in case someone isn't tech savvy, most of these blocking tools also LOG all your activity whether blocked or not. so just because something isn't blocked, doesn't mean you are being undetected. using a proxy avoidance site could be seen as even worse behaviour than simply surfing a prohibited site.

    my advice: don't do it.

Depends. I don't believe they can packet-sniff on HTTPS traffic.

First issue is the fact that you believe that you can have surfing priveleges at work- after hours. Most places do not turn on the blocking or proxy to forbid visiting sites they deem as having no value for you doing your job just during normal business hours.

Also make sure that you do not have a acceptable use computer policy that you have agreed to or you may risk getting fired if you attempt to use tactics to get around their blocking. If there is a clause and you get caught then you could be out on the street.

If there is no clause and it is just the IT playing cat and mouse games- you maybe able to get around it, legitmately or they may just continue to turn the screws tighter and tighter to fight it.

There are other threads on here discussing this and one of the easiest ways to do this is to find out if you are allowed to connect to your home computer from work. If so then set it up with one of a number of ways- Remote desktop, Logmein free, VNC or whatever and then you can connect from your home computer (assuming you have high speed internet at home of course).

It is very easy to correlate a users IP and computer to the websites they visit, logged in real time, if their IT dept is worthy of their interntetzskills. 'work puter = work stuff' is just safe. that said, I have no idea why TGR gets through my work proxy except perhaps there is a reader/fan of TGR in that dept.
