Bit confusing here; shrubs and trees got pole axed by the early September heat wave (115 F) and are now both dropping lives and blooming, as in Spring bloom e.g. western redbuds. Did I miss Winter??

10 day still dry and warm.
Smoke as bad as ever, can’t even see Tiger mountain today.

That smoke is crazy. Usually we get it and your side of the state's clear. We've had a great fall so far, very little smoke.
Added opensnow back to the home screen, must mean something..
Frost in the grass, and a dusting on the peaks.
I can smell it. And feel it.
Not here yet. But soon come.
Turn in full effect up here in Canada. Weather is fighting between Summer and Fall already.
^^^ the OP , 04august2006.
I thought about this last week when the morning Temp. was 45F.
we're not there yet -
the mosquitoes are still blood-thirsty , and
there are still too many Deerflies, but
I know it's coming.
This region used to see snowflakes in September ;
more recently, we have had Rain for Thanksgiving...
Not feeling it like I used to -
a Fall on ice that led to a slow healing fracture ( eighteen months ) contributed.
I never used to get cold. -26F > given me choppers and a Kromer.
now, below a mild (winter) Temperature, feeling warm is elusive...
I hope you enjoy it !
peace, my friends

The grass in the fields has that mellow late season look.
F'n heatwave here complete with fires.
The forum's getting pretty salty though...
^^ sorry to hear. actually amazed we've been able to *choose* whether to be aware of wildfires, as opposed to the direct smells and sights of early summer.
wishing you rain - but not *too* much there.
starting to feel it. have bindings to mount and am feeling the pinch of time; my house plants/house trees growth is slowing down and i'm preparing myself for the inevitable making of room for them back inside. the ski dreams have not yet commenced but i'll blame that on mammoth keeping the waking dreams alive into this month.
It's august. Stop. Just stop.
Too soon.
boats on the great loop are headed south again… the turn has begun.
fact.
It was 40 years ago and right about now that myself and 2 other buddies were planning our escape from Indiana. If you ever lived in Indiana you understand. About 6 weeks from that point we departed and began driving west. We had agreed that CO was already done and that Utah looked interesting as a starting point although we had sent applications to ski areas all over the west. To paraphrase Lou Reed, it was the Beginning of the Great Adventure. Holy shit a lot has changed in that short period of time.
Steve remained in the Park City area after I moved on to Montana. Depression got the better of him and he exited the planet around 15 years ago, RIP. Rick stayed in the Park City and Heber Valley area until about 3 years ago when he pulled up stakes, sold his real estate and moved to Cambria CA. He no longer skis due to shot knees and a bad back. I remain in MT and have my pass paid for in full and feel the pull of another winter.
Right about now all over the country or even the world a new crop of dreamers is plotting and scheming to GTFO and experience the life in a ski town (whatever that means these days).
Yesterday was hot as balls here (mid 90s) and last evening a blustery cold front passed through. This morning there is a bit more of a chill and the angle of the sun is changing enough to hint at things to come. That feeling is in the air and it is a few days + 100 days till the lifts turn if Mother Nature cooperates.
What a great and stupid lifestyle.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Heh. I bumped too soon.
But bunions story resonates.
RIP Steve.
It’s coming. The turn isnt here.
Yet.
For me it was 31 years ago, and it happened in September not August. The prior year a friend and I had done a lot of winter travel, some of it skiing. Caught a powder day at Eldora, my first ever (I was a very new, intermediate alpine skier), and we decided we were going to be ski bums the following winter. Fast forward to September '92, friend calls me up in Seattle and says she just rented a house near Purgatory, and there was a bedroom in it for me. I quit my job, and 6 weeks later I packed up everything I owned and headed to the mountains. That was all she wrote, life forever changed.

it's turning here:

There's daily turns.
There's yearly turns.
There's life-time turns.
And then there's geological/cosmological turns.

never been to Indiana,
not even close ....

yikes! turning the wrong way - as are so many places now.
wishing you rain and relief!
we've had a cool august after a brutal july (a/c off all month!)
september could be hot and steamy, and smoky...but with the days getting shorter i'm feeling it coming...
^and yes RIP to your buddy steve, bunyon. you've reminded me to make some pass decisions of my own soon. wishing you a good one in MT![]()
