    Fun Looking Rally Vehicles

    Pike's Peak Semis

Long on Rotella placement short on spooled turbos but there's some good shots in here.

This is the ultimate Pikes Peak car. 800hp out of a motor that is less than 2 liters.

Dude, I've seen your wedding pictures, and they don't look anything like that. The white dress is a total giveaway.

If I recall correctly, the dress you were wearing was stitched togther from an old pizza hut tablecloth.

if I were betting I'd lay odds that it's a bit less and that they're making the HP a little higher in the rpm range than a typical diesel. The thing that most impresses me about those rigs is how little smoke they're producing even when really on the accel. My truck would have to be really spooled up to clean the smoke and drive hard that high.

IIRC BMW had a F1 car that was ~1600hp for 2 liters...

One of my dreams is to field a car in that event someday. I keep trying to convince my little brother to bring out his Saab factory rally car and enter.

I've always loved this vid from the previous record setting run, prolly a rerun, but a good one:

    Def better with sound.

    OK. That was good.

I was working (fire suppresion) the hill climb (Continental divide-Garfield) a couple years ago on a switchback, and some dude on a jacked ATV come rippin' up the road & forgot there was a hairpin. Prolly got it slowed down to about 50 mph before he got thrown chest first off a slab of granite, bounced about 20 ft into the tailgate/bumper of a pickup, then ping-ponged backabout 20 ft. Meanwhile the ATV just missed the front bumper of the FS duece & a-half fire truck and proceeds to take out the Port-A-Potty. Damn thing (Port-A-Potty) smashed flat for a few seconds, then whap-thwip-thweet-thunk-thock reassembled itself. Luckily nobody was in it - the dreaded blue stain would've been as bad as gettin' bonked.

One of the later variants of the T2000s was powered by a single CAT putting out 1,375 hp @ 2,600 rpm (at 10,000-foot elevation), 4000 ft-lbs. of torque; 1,290 hp @ 2,600 rpm (at 14,000-foot elevation), 3,760 ft-lbs. of torque. Pretty typical of the engines used, love that low rpm HP. I know at one time they had dual Cummins fitted on the race chassis that were putting out over 2500hp each.

I don't get it. Why not run a real rally car (note my masterful alliteration ) if you're on a road?

They just do it, just to do it. It gets some recognition for the brand, gets the class 8 boys into motorsports... Why not? Like Super Truck racing in Europe.

Although Kenworth has since stopped entering in Pikes Peak. (stupid bottom line)
