The joists are spaced at 300mm intervals and sit on a number of hard standings so I'm not too worried about 'em. They're specific decking joists so I reckon they'll be OK.

If it all falls to pieces I'll let you know.

Do you realize that you've just posted an admission of ignorance so breathtaking that it disqualifies you from commenting on any political or economic threads from here on out?

    Dallas,

As perhaps the only owner of capri Carhartts in the universe, I feel the need to weigh in here. Admittedly, they are a niche item but I envisioned them for times when you need to cover the knees without overheating while performing some uber-manly task involving heavy weights and/or dangerous machinery.

In today's world of hydridized functionality (cell phones with cameras, sneakers with roller wheels , etc), there's room, nay, a need for activewear that lets you climb a 5.10 pitch and timber frame a cabin without taking your pants off.

My girlfriend scoffed at first but now she loves them. She claims they make her laugh and keep other women at safe distances but I know the truth. Her smirks and jokes can't hide the obvious burning desire that my rugged clam diggers inspire. Trust me, in a town like Jackson, there is no better way to boost your street cred than a pair of Carhartts tantalizingly cut off at the calf.

And, by the way, the correct terminology is 'manpri'. Roo, if you think you're ready, step up to the big leagues of home construction fashion. Lesser men need not apply.

As far as hangers go, you should be able to ask the people in the lumber yard what size hanger you need for the particular joist you are using. If they don't stock it they should be able to get the correct size hangers within at most a week. If not then they suck!

If you can't wait that long and need to use a bigger hanger then just cut the top off with a reciprocating saw or a circular saw fitted with a metal blade. Its kinda fun to watch the sparks fly but you might wanna wear eye protection because metal shavings lodged in your eyeballs are no fun. Trust me.

You can fold the top of the hanger over by beating on it with a hammer if that sounds like more fun or you don't feel like spending a few bucks on a metal blade. However, bending the top of the hanger over the top of the joist is not very clean and can cause the deck boards to lay a little uneven over the hangers compared to the ones layed on just the joists.

Anyway, if you want to wail on shit with a nice framing hammer I would suggest getting a 23oz Vaughan California framing hammer. It has a nice big fat head. Extremely good for tatooing your fingers...er...I mean nails with. Get a wood handle unless you plan on making a lot of mistakes and have to pull a lot of nails. I like a straight handle but you should get what feels good in your hand.

If you are left handed you should be sure to ask the hardware store to see their selection of left handed hammers since they usually do not keep them out on the floor.

I am looking forward to a TR of your black and blue fingernails. Teco guns are the shit when it comes to hangers.
The maximum span on the joists is around 160cm so the 2x6s seem to be holding up pretty well. I'm gonna fire a bunch of noggins in there to keep it all toight. I haven't managed to hammer my hands too badly yet although my fucking back is killing me.

Biggest impediment so far is the power mitre saw I bought that can't cut all the way through a 2x6. I have to flip the thing over to cut through the last bit which tends to leave a small lip that requires a bunch of faffing and trimming at. Whadda steaming cunt.

Holy shit, a fucking saw that can't cut through a 2x6? WTF, is the blade only 6 inches?

I sense sand creeping into your vag just thinking about it.

Shoulda bought a slider. My Bosch 10" will cut through a 4X4 or a 2X8 just find and dandy like.

It's not so much girth as it is the ability to extend out and go deep, DEEEEEEP.
