    Switching Swix skipole baskets

OK, I know it's probably the good ole "yank 'em off" method, but I thought i'd seen some trick unique to Swix for switching the baskets. Does the tip screw off on these CT1's or something? Kinda loathe to fuck these up....

Are you sure? The tip is actually black plastic and wider than the pole going into the basket... Have you done work on these or are you basing your opinion on the other 99% of ski poles out there?

i have the viper ct3s from a year or two ago and recently bought powder baskets.

im almost 99% sure that these have the same tips, and yes you just pull them off. i found spinning them as you pull them makes them slide off easier. popping them back on is v. easy.

when I changed my older swix cobras from racer baskets to powder baskets, I just cut them off.

But it sounds like you don't want to wreck the old ones, so I dunno

running them under hot, hot water is key (as long as they aren't the screwy kind). They'll get off pretty easy if you make them nice and hot first.

OK, how can you tell if they're the "screwy kind?"

But thanks, guys. I appreciate the info.

Not quite sure what you're trying to do, but when I need powder baskets (an all too rare event) I just slap a pair of Swix pow baskets on under my regular (racing) baskets and use duct tape as a collar below them. Worked great for a few seasons now, and it only takes about 6-10" of duct tape.
Only minor drawback is it slightly shortens the effective length of pole under the basket, and on hardpack very occasionally you might miss a pole plant (but that's not a big deal).

My opinion is based on thorough experience with multiple pairs of poles, swix and others:

    BUY NEW POLES!!!

    Kanutten-

i love my swix poles. strong as hell and very light.

anyway, just because i am curious, are you sure you can't just pull them off?
maybe getting them hot makes it a bit easier, but mine popped off fine and the others clicked in no problem. i don't think i damged poles or baskets in doing so.

you should be able to just pull the basket (not the entire tip) off. I'd just go with the pow basket underneath thing though. It's worked great when i've done it.

    Just got my SAC poles.

I tried the spinning and heating them up. But, while I was pushing on them, a small basket tore.

So I cut off the small baskets.

You can just pull them off. Done it myself a couple of times. Warm water would probably help as others have pointed out.
You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.
