no wireless when power cable unplugged

My roommate's laptop has wireless. It works fine when his power cable is plugged in, but when he's running off the battery he has no connection (network or internet).

The battery power management settings don't make a difference.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Sorry, not giving you a lot to work with.

Call tech support? That's a logical one I think.

Plug the sucker in and check how the NIC (Network Interface Card) card settingsare configured. Usually you can set them to not work to save power when using the battery. There will either be a configuration utility of some kind from the manufacturer or something will be in Control Panel.

Do a Google search if it is not obvious...

Could have gotten some wires crossed or some circuts shorted out.

Best option is to call Tech support or go back to where you bought it and see if they can do anything for you.

Some info like brand would help too. Dell has a option on their wireless to only enable it when the laptop is on AC. It is a option to change in the wireless settings if I remember not the power settings.

did the wireless at one point work when it was unplugged?
Im hinting at doing a system restore to an earlier point if it did.

my gf's laptop just stopped working wireless all together, went through all the settings and couldnt figure it out, so I just restored it to last October when it did work and everything now is fine.

Try inserting the female end of the power cable into the little hole on the back of the computer.

Got it fixed, I thought for sure I went through all the power management, wireless, network, and card settings, but my roommate found the right one.
