Its not that I suck at spelling, its that I just don't care
convert the mpegs to a format iDVD accepts. that's not easy but can be done with mplayer's mencoder: http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/
i have no idea how good the gui is, i've only used the command line, but if you're familiar with the osx shell i can give you a sample command-line to convert any movie to a reasonable two-pass mpeg4/mp3 format readily accepted by both media player and quicktime.
ok I need to convert mpegs to .mov so I can get it onto iDVD and after playing with that program a bit I don't know how to do it...

If you don't have enough diskspace to do it by importing into iMovie, you don't have enough to do it by conversion either. The original file stays intact during (and in many cases) after the conversion. Just delete that midget porn and you should be fine (I know they're only small, but they still take a lot of space)

Do you realize that you've just posted an admission of ignorance so breathtaking that it disqualifies you from commenting on any political or economic threads from here on out?
Get Toast 7.
Do you want to just burn them, or have them play in a consumer DVD player?
If you just want to burn, create a new burn folder (in "file" dropdown in finder)
ROBOTS ARE EATING MY FACE.
edg, imovie has only a couple options for conversion and all lower the quality significantly, except 'cd quality', which saves it uncompressed. that means about a gig for 10 minutes of movie.
as painful as mplayer is, it'll convert the movie to a new format without expanding it tenfold.
Mpeg Stream Clip can also handle the conversion, I think, and is definitely not as painful as mplayer. It also has the same low, low price ($0) as mplayer, which makes it $70 cheaper than Popcorn or Toast (which are otherwise great programs).

so you want the mpegs as data files on a data DVD?
try inserting the blank DVD, load the files onto the DVD, and click "burn disc" when you have what you want. i don't have any blanks to try this method, but I think it might work
no I want to be able to put the movies into my dvd player and watch them..

then you meant to say "latter" dumbshit
