    Happy 65th Birthday to...

    Bob Dylan!

A spectacular line up in Denver tonight...

DYLAN65: THE SONGS OF BOB DYLAN.
A Benefit for music programs in local schools through DPS Foundation.
    Wednesday, May 24th, 2006, 8:00pm
The Oriental Theater, 4335 W. 44th Avenue, Denver, CO

Tickets $15 in advance and $20 day of show. To purchase advance tickets click here. Tickets are also available by calling the Oriental Theater box office @ 303-455-2124.

An all-star lineup of local musicians will pay tribute to Bob Dylan on his 65th Birthday while raising money for music programs in local schools. Instrument donations for the school programs will also be collected.

Event organizer Dewey Paul Moffitt and his band DEWEY DECIBEL SYSTEM will host an evening of all Bob Dylan songs. There will be an acoustic set in which individual singer-songwriters will get up and play followed by an electric set full of surprises and special guest performers.

At least 30 local musicians will be joining Dewey Decibel System on stage and include members of Double Parked, Leftover Salmon, The Railbenders, Sonia Dada, Spiv, The Trampolines, and others. Several solo artists are joining in too, among them are Angie Stevens (Best Singer-Songwriter by Westword), Brian Sofer, Emilio Emilio, John Common, and Scott Baxendale (owner Colfax Guitar Shop).

Several of the guest performers including organizer Moffitt participated in last November's local re-enactment of "The Band's The Last Waltz". That successful sold-out show was organized by local jam band Polytoxic and was recently awarded the year's best local concert by Westword.

The Dewey Decibel System band will feature regular rotating band members Aylon Baru, Mike "Spanky" McCluer, Mike Studeny, Ryan Zimmerman, Scott Bruggeman, and the legendary percussionist Jose' Rossy (formerly of Weather Report, the Talking Heads, Patti LaBelle, Robert Palmer, Power Station, Sonia Dada).

Dewey Paul Moffitt, 34, is a full-time audio engineer for Kroenke Sports Enterprises at Pepsi Center. In the past, he was a festival director for Performance International (LODO Music Festival, Blues & Bones); a touring audio engineer; a concert promoter in Gainesville, Florida; got his start in the business at age 19 setting up dressing rooms for the Grateful Dead with legendary San Francisco promoter Bill Graham; a musician since the age of 9.

Great lines from a great artist/poet/songwriter.

Sick and ashamed and happy (and "I'll know my song well before I start singing"),

Dylan defies medical theory. How he is still alive is almost as much of a mystery as how Keith Richards is still alive. I saw him in '96 and he looked (and sounded) pretty much ready to croak. Glad he hasn't.

What a coincidence, the first tune I played this morning was "High Water."

Just in case you haven't, put "Masked and Anonymous" in your Netflix queue. Very cool movie starring the man himself and a host of other big stars that quickly faded away a few years ago.

I was just in Duluth last weekend.

regardless, I think the biggest tribute that could be paid to Dylan is the fact that he has always evolved. Not too many can say that. I'm sure no one can say it like Bob Dylan.
