1TB does not equally 1TB WTF?

WTF My new 1TB drive showed up today, I hook it up, works fine, but even after reformatting it it only shows 973GB, but disk utility says there is over 1TB worth of bytes. WTF?????

I know that real hard drive space is often less than what the drive is "rated" but 37 gigs less???????

You will always lose some space as NTFS/FAt requires some space to record down the structure and settings of the clusters on the drive ( simplified )

Well, let's see. 1 Tb equals 1024 Gb and 1099511627776 bytes (based on a factor of 1024, or 2^10, instead of 1000). So if you have 10^12 bytes, you don't have a full Tb, but something more like 931 Gb. Makes sense?

If your computer reports 1 Tb worth of bytes (instead of 10^12 bytes), go with the other explanations.

I've heard of exabytes.. but zettas and yottas are new to me.
