MAMMOTH on April Fool's Weekend 2006

There was definitely no April fooling around. What a spectacular weekend. The weekend didn't start off quite well. What normally should be a 6 to 6.5 hour drive was a 15.5 hour drive. Major snow dumpage on the west slope of the Sierra's. All HWY's over the Sierra's CLOSED. I thought going over HWY 88 might by the best, CLOSED, back tracked to HWY 50, CLOSED. But, eventually on Saturday morning 6 AM .. ARRIVAL in MAMMOTH .. 3 hours of "REST" later, HIT IT, some incredible wind buff snow.

MAMMOTH has so much snow, it's just crazy. Upper portion of Chair 14, just piles of moved snow just so the lift can run properly. Ran through most of the mountain on Saturday, nothing really groomed.

SUNDAY, Quite possibly the best day of the season. BURNING up the GROOMERS all morning, it was just awesome. Chair 9, also has literally so much snow, that up by Pole 14, snowboard was basically scrapping the ground. It must be close to 20 feet over on that side. The Mammoth sign at top, has about 17 feet of snow. Very windy up top, 8 foot drop off on Cornice and the same over on the Scotty's side of Chair 23. Sunday, everything stayed perfect all day. EAGLE Chair 15 bottom, in the afternoon got alittle bit slushy.

MONDAY MORNING --- SNOW, SNOW, SNOW, and more SNOW... SNOW was a great reminder of NEW YEARS 2006. FATTY SNOW FLAKES .. Half Dollar size and bigger. Riding Stump Alley and Broadway in close to 3 feet of wet fresh snow. Visibility was pretty poor, but point and go.

Were on track, high percentage we may break the all time record of 617 inches. Come on Mother Nature, ALL TIME RECORD YEAR !!!!!!!!!

HEADING BACK UP THIS UPCOMING WEEKEND ... Should be another fantastic killer weekend on the mountain of all mountains.
