    Splitboards and Alta

do they check for splitboards? i think it would be hilarious to attach it up and snowboard down a lift run.

has anyone ever tried this, i think it would be hilarious

What would be hilarious: watching a Texas gaper with a flag pinned to his back getting the pain train treatment.

It's been done, and documented for a snowboard magazine. Like 12 years ago.

At Mad River Glen its done all the time - nobody even notices - its not worth your time to do it anywhere East of the Mississippi in fact. Stay where you are or go home.

It would be more extreme to just drink some rat poison.

honestly i can see where alta is coming from... alot of snowboarders dont stay and there edges and leave "slide waves" on their turns

a true boarder wouldn't tear up the terrain ;-)

My friend Gonar boarded Alta last weekend - he said it wasn't very good at all, even with all the deep pow. It is to flat, and there are way to many wannabe Skiers there saving the planet by driving solo up the canyon in their gas guzzlers.

Alta is a Wannabe Skiers Mountain, thank god. We don't want to snowboard there.

During this year's Utah mini, I boarded from the top of Sugarloaf down to GMD for apre beers. Nobody seemed to care much that I was on a snowboard, from the lady at the Alta/Bird gate who waved me through to the other skiers on the mountain.

Based on that one run, I'd have to say that most of the terrain in the middle of the mountain rides much like Brighton, only slightly steeper and with more vert. This of course excludes the hike-to/traverse-to terrain.

If it weren't such a pain to get back to the top of Alta on a board (think car shuttle back to the 'Bird, Tram ride, down Mineral Basin and then up Baldy Express), it might be fun to explore Alta more on my board. Or maybe I should get better at skiing.
