Stuck, Gunther is 13 and 1/2. When adopted at 10 months old he had been hit by a car and had his pelvis broken. I spoke to the doctor that put him back together and he told me he would have some gnarly arthritis in his old age and he was right. The tramadol is really helping him to get out of the house and do his business. The days of even walking around the block are gone though so I feel like we need to let him go which is heartbreaking when he looks into my eyes.
Gunther actually walked down the block yesterday on his own to do his business, so I delayed the vet from coming tomorrow/Monday. Today he is back to being very immobile...sigh.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
Sorry L2S. It's so so hard. You're doing the right thing. Find peace in that you are able to end his suffering and for that he will be eternally grateful. Take care.
So sorry L2S. Sending vibes your and Gunther’s way.
Sometimes the hardest decision is the right one.
Sorry to hear L2S, always so tough.
If this isn’t the thread for this, apologies, I can delete it later…
On Wednesday I was out at a park and while is was in between pickleball matches this stray husky came up to the fence. He had a collar but no tags and had been clearly dumped recently. He was hot and thirsty, but super friendly. I tried to get around to the outside of the court to grab him, but before I got there he wandered into the road and got hit by a car. A few of us ran over and got him out of the road, and someone stopped and took him to the emergency vet right away. Yesterday I called around and found out he didn’t end up making it.
I know logically there’s nothing I could have done, but I can’t shake the feeling that he was meant to be my dog. Since I lost my pup in my divorce I’ve been waiting for another dog to find me, and it could have been him.
I think I would have named him Crash if he would have pulled through. So RIP to Crash. He deserved a lot better.
That is the fucking worst. A pox on the cunts if they dumped him. Having an animal killed by a car is so heart breaking.

Yeah. Too many of them get dumped around here. It’s hard to be mad at people who give up their pets if they have to, but turn them in to any of the shelters around here. Leaving them on the side of the road is basically guaranteeing their fate. Especially a husky when it’s 115 out
That's horrible. Being a husky he could have just escaped or run off. God knows I thought my husky would end up running off(which he did a LOT!), get shot, or killed by a bear. However I believe people who just abandon their dogs deserve a special place in hell.
Also aren't you in Arizona? I know it can work but seems kinda cruel to have a northern breed in brutal southern climates. I get ac and pools but my husky hated being inside and hated water except in its frozen form. Just my 2cents.

Yeah. I wouldn’t bring a husky down here, but lots of people do for whatever reason. I’m sure that contributes to so many of them getting turned over for behavioral reasons. Hard for any dog to get the exercise they need this time of year, let alone a super high energy dog.
I'm so sorry for you but I'll tell you straight up, you gave Gunther the best life. Big vibes to you for all the love you and Gunther shared.
Thank you so much for your thoughts.
Gypsy loved counter surfing and we never broke her of it, but instead we tried to not leave anything on the counter that could harm her.
I mean....if that's the worse thing she did, we're all good.
I am not sure what her previous owner did to her but it was harsh enough that we had some insecurity issues to deal with and it took a lot of work on our part to build her confidence. She was full of love from day one after we rescued her.
I also learned a lot about myself from this dog.
Sometimes you have to let your bad self ski...

A moment of your time for my parents' labradoodle, Hudson. Little guy was in decline for a while now, but always looked like a puppy. They had to say goodbye last night. I loved the little Muppet! I saw him about twice a year and I could tell he always remembered me. Now my parents are all alone in their little apartment in Petaluma. I guess I'll drive out with Daisy in October for my birthday.![]()
Aww, sorry to hear that, condolences to you and your parents. Hudson was a handsome fellow
Rip Hudson. Looks like he got the hood life
Aww. What a sweet boy. RIP Hudson
RIP Hudson, I’m sorry for you and your folks loss. Looks like a fun pup.
Man, I hate seeing this thread pop up, but every time I click on it im reminded of the good in the world that dogs and their humans bring.
I still call it The Jake.
Reminder to all of you out there to love your dogs who love you unconditionally every day, because you never know when their days with you will end.
Our good boi Hózhó was doing fine last week, but we noted he was drinking a lot of water. His appetite suddenly decreased this past Thursday. We took him to the vet yesterday and his labs were slightly off, so his vet started him on antibiotics. Last night he started throwing up and this morning he couldn't eat and started with diarrhea. We took him to the vet ER, his labs were off the charts and an ultrasound showed disseminated tumor throughout his liver. As an oncologist, I knew this wasn't recoverable, and would only lead to a miserable end, regardless of whatever we did.
We had to put him down this afternoon.
It was all so fast. He was 9 years old, and in good health until 3 days ago. He was the best boi. We asked for him to wait for us at the rainbow bridge with our other two dogs.
Hug your pup tonight.
