    Krypton Questions

    Hey guys,

So after 2 years on the x-wave 9 I think it's time for a new boot. I had a couple of Krypton questions that I couldn't see answers to in previous posts.
My biggest complaint about the x-waves is the packed out liner causing too much heel and ankle movement. I've also read that the krypton isn't that snug in the heel either. Is the Krypton snugger in the heel than the x-wave (i'll be buying with an intuition liner)? Also, I'm in a 26.5 x-wave (I'm a size 9 street shoe) and assume that I'll be the same size in the Krypton? I used to ski on Flexons and my only complaint with them was lack of instep room. It sounds like the Krypton is a bit more volumous in this department. Also, is the Krypton Cross flex similar to the Flexon Pro flex? If so, I'll save some cash and do the Cross instead of the Pro. I'll be trying the boots on next week, but just wanted to get some more info from those guys that have been on them for a while. Thanks for any info you can give me.

Don't know about the X-wave, but my last boot was a Lange L10 with a Comformable liner. With an Intuition liner heel fit is comparable, if your boot fitter is good.

Krypton shell sizing is odd; you will fit into a smaller shell size than other boots. Be sure to get shell sized first if you plan to buy from a distance.

Flex for both boots is the same. Pro comes with two tongues and two footbeds, allowing you to customize the boot to your needs. Soft tongue is plenty stiff for most people.

Thanks eleven. Anyone else have any input on the size issue? Are you skiing the Krypton two sizes down from your street shoe size? Any other Solly to Krypton people?

the krypton pro and krypton kross flex are similar, but different. the rampage and the kross have the same shell and same soft tounge. the kross also comes with a stiffer tounge, allowing you to make it a stiffer boot. the pro has the same soft and stiff tounges as the other two boots, but the plastic shell is stiffer overall than the kross/rampage.

for example, if you have the same soft tounge in both the kross and the pro, the pros are noticeably stiffer.

personally, i think the krypton is the best thing since sliced bread for preventing heel movement. that angled middle buckle always seems to keep my heel firmly in place. kryptons seem to have a pretty narrow heel box anyways, but since salomons tend to as well it's hard to say how different they will be. the intuition liner should make a HUGE difference in keeping your heel in place. intuition liner + diagonal middle buckle = $$$$

oh, and as far as the sizing question you asked goes...

i used to have the x-wave 8s. i wear an 11.5 street shoe, and a 29 x-wave fit me the best. with the kryptons i wear a 28.

it's different for every person though, so make sure to get bootfit.
