Leki Trigger, does it work?

Never used these but with my hand now buggered from a wicked fall this weekend (Check your DIN's after borrowing skis to a buddy) I'm looking at these. Pole was trapped under me as I tumbled at 35+, stripped my glove and pole off finally but not until it tried to pull my thumb off.

How does the strap seperate and when? Are the Leki triggers worth the money?

I don't like them. The hole you shove the clip into in the grip constantly gets ice in it and I have to give my pole a blow job to melt the ice andbe able to stick it in. Where you wearing your straps correctly? ie Wearing it so the strap doesn't come over your thumb.

I love the poles themselves though.

Myself, I stopped using straps. Too much of a pain in the ass.
Good poles have releasable straps anyways.
Lifelinks pull out pretty easily.

I like the poles, but, as the previous poster stated, ice gets in and makes the trigger impossible to use.

I like them. Been using them for a few years. In the odd instance where I've snagged a branch or taken falls that yanked on them, they have worked as advertised.

The complaint about the little socket hole clogging with snow or ice is legit. However, you can usually just bang it out against the other pole or resort to the previously mentioned "fellate to defrost" technique.

Mine came with both a "glove" strap and a "standard" strap. If you used the "standard" strap, you'd lose some of the convenience but would not usually expose the hole to snow, freezing rain, etc. -- but it'd still snap out under pressure. I've run into folks using that option.

The strap is anchored to the palm side of the glove-thingy and connects between the thumb and fore-finger on the back of your hand via a standard snap type button. The strap with the trigger is also built with a 1 inch peice of elastic before the button to make the connection more elastic. It can release completly by detaching the glove-side-trigger-thingy from it's union with the pole, or it can just come apart at the button, i guess with the idea that of saving your thumb joint.

The strap system is kind of a take it or leave it thing for me, but the poles definitly kick ass. I use them without the trigger setup, and they're great for that since you dont have to cut anything off.

I've never found that using pole straps that hard (plus all the icing issues) I just thought that it solved a problem that never existed in the first place...

The triggers on my World Cups don't really work that well. I've also had one break, so it wouldn't stay in the pole. And on many occaisions, I've had the straps pop out in the lift line and on traverses.

I wish my poles had normal straps, but as mentioned above, the poles themselves are excellent.

I have a pair and I always push on the tops of my poles so the strapas come out alot. I like the poles just not the Trigger straps.
