Booster Straps: Over shell or just over tongue?

After reading much of what comes up in a search of "booster straps" both here and on teletips, I am still not sure if Booster Straps are to be mounted over the tounge inside the shell or over the shell. Moreover, dudes seem to like hybrids of using the regular velcro power strap over just the tonge and then the booster strap on the outside over the shell.

Seems to me these things are designed to take advantage of their elasticity, so why use them in conjunction with your regular static velcro power straps?

Where is the best place to mount these, and inside or outside the shell?

When I had 'em I liked 'em under shell. Held the liner around my leg much better.

under shell. i've heard they are rendered useless when combined with the regular strap. just hearsay, though...can't think of a good reason for it.

I removed my origional strap and wear it under the shell. I tried it both ways and found that when I wear it right on the liner, it provided much more support.

Back when you were "racing", did you wear the tight plum smuggler speed suits? That's hot!

just reinstalled mine from an older boot.... i'm going with a big no....great invention. They don't affect forward lean because they stretch.

The idea behind it is to wear it under the shell, this way when you flex forward it pulls the back of the shell down quicker and makes the boot easier to flex...it is attached to the back of the shell and against the toungue...also helps with shin bang

I've got a pair on my alpine boots and the rubber strip at the front is a lot thicker than the rest of the strap. Remember someone saying to me that he had a problem with his bots being too upright and the booster strap under the shell was only making it worse.

Edit: I wish I could spel

I use both stock and booster strap. I may be bass ackwards here, but I use the stock strap under the shell and the booster strap over the whole shibang. It works for me. I havn't had problems with shin bang since and i have a nice even flex.

    One for the outside.
I removed the velcro strap that came on my Tecnica Icon X's and installed the BOOSTER Strap, which I wear on the outside of the shell.
That said I will try them on the inside of the shell next time out.

Over the shell with T-1s. I can see under the shell working, especially if you have an alpine boot.

FWIW - I am trying these out on my Scarpa F1's. Any advice specific to that would be great, or anything pointed toward AT use. Interesting to see most folks responding with under the shell, except the guy on T1's, which is probably the boot most similar to mine.

With my T-1s, I use the Booster as a 4th buckle. I don’t know if it is possible to make the boot stiffer, but with the Booster over the shell the fit is much tighter and feels more responsive. My new boot, the Crispi CXU, has four buckles, currently I’m not using the Booster strap, but I might try it under the shell.

I forgot to add. I used it both over and under the shell on my old boots. Boosters work MUCH better under the shell.

    None.

I use 2-strap boosters. The 3-strap version stiffens it a bit, but the 2-straps maintain existing flex, just 'sweeten' it if that makes any sense.
