    Scarpa T-Race

I saw that somebody posted a picture of the new T-Races in another forum, and they looked sweet. I want to put together a pro-form order from Black Diamond and was wondering if these new boots are coming out any time soon? Anybody have any ideas of when BD's new line of boots are in production?

BD is no longer importing scarpa (they are selling their stock in T-races, old ones, right now at bdel.com) so you're gonna have to try and find a scarpa dist. next year (whoever it'll be) to get a deal on the new ones.

If you can't find a deal on the T-Races

you might have luck finding these. They have a a little higher instep and they are as stiff, if not stiffer than the old T-Races. I've been skiing on them this year and am happy. I don't know how stiff the new T-Races will be though.

According to BD, Scarpa will be doing their own distribution in the US, but haven't finished setting up shop yet. Probably by end of month, but I doubt they'll be selling direct so figure a few more weeks for them to make it into stores, and another week or two to be shippde to you.

If you want them sooner, keep an eye on euro sites (e.g. T-P).

Just a note, that picture is of NEXT YEARS boot. It wont be available and sent to dealers until next fall. I have heard that right now the only size that even exist is a size 8. So probably going to have to wait for the Atomic looking Scarpa..... Now those Crispis on the other hand, I keep hearing good things, but really dont want to buy new gear right now....

yeah that white T race look is wack. :shudder:

2 pairs of enerG's in good shape, fit my foot perfectly, but if i were in the market for a boot i think the carbon fiber goodness of the new crispi would call me strongly. am hearing v. good things about them.."more control than the T race".

but with tele boots it comes down to fit, and whether the flex in the forefoot area works with your foot. some people's feet just don't seem to work with crispi's forefoot flex.

My new XRs (the Crispis in the pic) don't have that old, I'm going to cut off your toes feel that Crispis are known for. It's a progressive flex similar to Garmonts but stiffer than the Ener-G. I guess that was a big focus when designing the bellows for the XR. And the carbon is amazingly laterally stiff which is nice.

Ever have a problem kicking the forefoot buckle unbuckled? Always wondered if the "reversed" buckles had this problem.

i am thinking of getting a tele setup going as well...

just looking for boot rec's. (and either i'd get some bombers or linkens)

def. want the burl ass tele boot. cxr, t-race, garmont ?

though it doesn't really matter, because i will mod the shit out of them, i have a semi high volume foot (super high arch, fairly wide (c+) and narrow ankle and heels, but am used to skiing alpine race boots and working on them. i can also say i thought the garmont adrenaline was too spacous and soft for my likes...

what else? i'd prolly pull the walk feature and rivet the shells, as i will be making more of a mod alpine turn vs deep knee drop

oh, and they need to be uber cheap, or trade for some salomon course 27.5 last year boots with 15 days... if anyone is looking????

what's the stiffest, burl-est out there?

edit: going to Xpost ove in gearswap

    Marshal,

From what I've skied and heard, the Crispi XR is the stiffest. If your feet fit in those shells you sent me, you won't like a T-Race or T1. Don't get the CXR-those hurt. Your best best will be the Triple G.

    You've never tele'd?
You don't want TRaces then, or any of the monster boots.

    Get T1's + 7tms

    Your legs will thank me.

likwid- thanks for the tip, and i am sure that for 99% of the peeps out there, it is sound advice, but i am a super big strong dude that really likes stiff locked in boots, and don't see myself dropping a knee even to the top of the boot cuff.

conundrum- thanks good info. appreciate it. sounds like a squadra/triple g is most likely the call, unless i can work a trade...

on a semi related note, is rocker launch good or bad? i get it sucks for a deep knee turn, but for a alpine turn at speed, rocker launch will keep those tips up even more, yeah?

Rockerlaunch sucks bigtime, but with your bulk it's not gonna happen.

Marshal: I have no doubt about your alpine prowess, but teleing is a totally different animal. First off going with big boots is fine, but stay away from Triple Gs. If you arent used to flexing the bellows of a boot, you will simply break bindings in that boot. The bellows simply does not flex appropriately. Also from your questions about rocker launch helping in pow, I assume you havent even tried teleing yet? The turn is much more centered in order to keep control of the skis. You dont drive the shovel near as much as an alpine turn because if you do you go over the bars. Rocker launch just forces you to lean back even more to keep control of your downhill ski, not good in any way... Also if you are going to make ANY sort of tele turn (deep or not) I cant stress enough that the first thing you are going to have to learn is to weight the forefoot and flex the bellows of the boot. This is really hard to learn in big boots, so just focus on it for a bit when you are first getting out there. Let me know if you have other questions and be prepared to either be hooked or realize just how stupid teleing actually is

    pretty much what he sed.

At your weight rocker launch is not going to be a problem. I'd suggest demoing a couple of boots with an old well fitting set of your alpine liners in the shell if at all possible.

yeah, i am kinda looking at this as an AT setup, really. sick of fritschis and trekkers. my old-dog self ain't learning any new tricks, but i think if i can get some boots and bindings on the cheap, and toss that setup on a wrecked pair of FGS i'll be good to go to see if it'll all work out, or not, i guess...

going to neptunes in the next day or two and try on some stuff

    thanks for all the feedback

yeah i've heard the new crispi is better in this respect. however i'd like you to stop saying things that make me want to buy another pair of tele boots when i already have too many pairs.

especially since it's pretty much a given that i'll buy the rottefella NTN binding/NTN boot once those become available.

No, actually I like the reversed buckle for when I'm walking with my skis off. I have the older Megarides without the reversed buckle and it always comes undone.
