Most vertical in one day - personal

I saw the post about most vertical in one run out there and got me wondering how much vertical maggots have done personally. The most I got was about 28K one day at WB. One of those days you just don't want to end. The beers at the Longhorn were mighty tasty that day...

Most I've done was 42k skiing at Jackson on a powder day.

Well, I should qualify that, that's the most I've done on a day where I was wearing an altimeter... there've been days were I thought I did more, but have no way of verifying it.

I think Ive done about 45k at wildcat before, but wildcat is probably the easiest ski area anywhere to do a ton of vertical.

They even hold the vertical record:
"Steve Briggs of North Conway, NH, (below) holds the record for the highest vertical ever skied with 61 runs (128,832 vertical) on March 1, 2004."

I take it we're talking lift served most vertical?

Well, Greg Hill did 40,000 vertical of skiing under his own power (skinning-no lifts) in 21 hours. That's a fair bit.

i did 17 runs in high ibrigg from 12 to 3 but in lech i could go 10 to 5 i will count maybe that would be 24000 but i think the drop is just about 300 av not pres 500 50k and 30 k dep on that on high ibrigg av drop beiing 300 or 500 but that is first day skiing with 18 year break - if i get tuned know the run etc i get better i remeber doing lifts in lech as kid with 13 with one breath the ones at the bottom petersboden and so but you wait so long to get up ... need a heli train vain will be hard to beat ... but i thougth 100 000 could well be possible if you are run in one one course sort of
well the lifts take to long really but as i saw a guy faster than me think he could do ar 180 000 a day a french racer if ths lifts would do it but really if you lok at it kreitler and so on went 120 000 in 10 minutes counting just the skiing time
so if the lift is doing it this day record can go up A LOT

    45k full day on Ajax

25k-35k everyday I ski Ajax. One Gondola with Lift 6 equals 4,000 vert per run. NOT BAD

I did a little over 52000 (15 gondolas) opening day at Kicking Horse a few seasons ago. There's a patroller whos done way more but he started way earlier and finished way later. I couldn't lift my feet after that.

Hmm seems if using lifts 10000-15000m is around the best you can do. We did around 12 nonstop epic pow runs on Hohtalli last April = 40000ft. Guess you'd need a heli to do a whole lot more, normally...

Edit - this thread is useless without pictures:

I did a charity event last year at Mammoth for vertical cure with official logs kept and came in at 84,000 vertical for the day. We had to do a few different chairs 8:30 - 4 but I think in the end I did about 75 laps or so on chair 3. Raised about $800.

I think that terrain also plays into this. My highest total is 42,500' ,no groomed runs except for transportation.

My best at Alta is 33,200'.

The Enduro winners @ A-Basin average about 68 runs in 10 hours. That's around 88,000 Vert on black/double black

I have a hard time grasping that someone could hike & ski 40,000' in 21 hours, that is insane!

106,000 in 8.5-9 hours. I slept well that night.

Edit: my biggest BC day is 7000 at best, and that was wayyyy more on the body. 40k. Yikes!

64,000 in one regular day at Sun Valley on April 3, 1999, was my best ever. ColdSmoke, Cobble, and I were firing on all cylinders that day. We didn't even start out the day with the intention of doing that much. We were just having so much fun we just kept riding and flying non-stop.

I figured out how to do 100,000 at the bird the year they put the Mineral Basin quad in. I presented it to management because it would have required their assistance in order to make it work. There is a particular high-speed route that would have to be roped-off, along with their approval to bypass the maze on every run. They rejected the idea saying they didn't want to have that kind of reputation. They said they already had the reputation of being an expert's mountain--they didn't also need people thinking they can all get 100,000 vertical feet in a day.

Harumphh, I say. I heard they ended up doing something like that idea a few years later, anyway. They just weren't interested in the idea at that time.

That's like 6 runs at Lost Trail. I regularly do that before 10 am. And I alternate runs between ID/MT...sometimes crossing back and forth on every turn.

Yeah, I've switched back and forth in one run as well (Lookout Pass ID/MT)
