    Unhappy Computer help???

I'm having difficulty getting alot of programs to actually run. I downloaded soem new anti-virus software (AVG), and am afraid I might have accidentally deleted something.

When I select something I get,

"Windows cannot acces the specifieddevice, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item"

Any help outside of a hammer would be greatly appreciated.

Stop downloading gay porn. Ted Stryker and Dex tell me that it's usaully accompanied with viruses and adware/spyware. Good luck!

What version of windows do you have? Do a Google search using the exact language of the error message (you have a few typos though that you need to fix or it won't work). The links returned should be very helpful. Good luck!

I bet you're running Windows XP. Turn off the anti-vrus software and see if things start working. If the ani-virus software (or any software) is installed by a regular user then permission issues will abound. Were you an Administrator when installing? If not, uninstall and install as an Admin.

Some software isn't ready for XP and the install creates a temporary files directory under "Program Files" where it can't be used by non-admins. During install you have to define the temporary (or scratch) directory under the "Temp" directory instead.

Cool, thank you both. I was drugging through google pages, and it sounds like that's the ticket, Snow Dog.
Weird how it works and pretty frustrating. Wait, just remembered, that's a problem, I attempted to uninstall, but when I go to add / remove programs, I can't get to it, because the same error comes up. Any way around that?

    Thanks again.

Ahhh, if I go through that way I should be able to remove it, correct?

If I remember right the careful part is because you can easily erase a lot more than intended?

It's sort of like doing surgery without anesthesia. I've done it with my brother as my guide, and he got it fixed for me. If you fock up though, your pc becomes a paperweight. My comp skills are for shite. Don't listen to me.

regedit may or may not fix anything. There's only 100,000 keys to fiddle with and you need to know exactly which ones matter.

There may be a specific uninstall program with the anti-virus software that is used instead of add/remove programs. Again, being the Administrator helps. You may have to use Windows Explorer to find the software installation and look for the specific uninstall program.

Or you could install XP again. I think it has a "repair" option which fixes the existing installation. It's also possible to create another XP installation which isn't what you want. You can also format the drive and install which you definately don't want. To install again, insert the CD in the drive and reboot. Some computers pop up a "boot from" question -- select CD.

Thanks, I think I'll try the cd first and then the redegit and then a bowling ball. I hate my goddman home computer, it's never worked correctly. Maybe I can make the monitor into a fishbowl.

if it's never worked correctly then you should consider the "format drive and install" option. If you have the stones.

Format all and re-install, sounds lovely, maybe I'll try X-mas eve after about a bottle of Crown.
