    The ultimate quiver

Since the snow and skiing is scarce, I use my days doing something slightly less meaningful. Namely thinking about snow and ski. And gear.

What would be the ultimate quiver? For me I ski lift assisted off-piste the most. I do quite a bit of touring. I do hit the slopes when off-piste is not possible. And obviously I live for those way too few days a season when there is loads and loads of fresh, light, pure and white snow:

Slopes; Atomic giant slalom 11 (sandwich competition edition).

Touring; A couple of candidates; goode 82, goode 95, Trab superrando (is this what it is called?). Probably with a silvretta pure freeride set-up, or freerides.

Everyday Ski; Stiff bros or dp wailer 95 with alpine binders.

It would be more economical to combine the touring ski and the everyday ski with bro or a dp wailer 95 with freerides. This thread is about the ULTIMATE quiver, though. Economics doesn't have a saying in such a thread, I suppose.

Big day skis; DP Lotus 120, alpine set-up.

Thats it for me, I think. I guess you could throw in a pair of jibbing skis, but I don't think I would use it much.

All work and no play, ... you know...

    everyday: BROs
    big big big dump: sanouks
serious rando: freerando (this is how they call 'em)
rock and hard snow: anything cheap and snappy

and yes, looks a lot like the quiver I am preparing

    I'm rather happy with my quiver right now;

stiff bro's for off-piste and 188cm g4's for everything else

but since we're looking for ultimate quiver, I would add these:

atomic gs11 170cm and karma 187cm for finland's small hills.

for dumping days something like sumo's since speed is not concern. bro's do just fine after the dump when there's enough visibility to take some speed.

and for "touring" i would like to find another pair of g4's and mount them with naxo stomp.

oh yes, and for riksgränsen one Skidoo Summit Highmark X 162

damn, I guess I have to go meet Santa because he lives only 6 kilometres from me

    Powder Day: Sanouks
    Crud/Spring Days/open spaces: Legend Pros
    Every Day off-piste : Mantra (184)
    Rock hard/cruising w/ dad/no off piste: Volkl 6 stars (168).

Early Season Rock skis to protect the good stuff
    Powder: original AK Rockets 200cm
    Every Day: XXX (185)

Yeah, I'm pretty happy w/ this years quiver.

You better tack on an extra 3cms, ‘cause you’re short.

    Pretty much need three IMVHO:

    Everday skinny: 194 Arnos
    Everday Fat: 193 Big Daddies
    Going Huge Gun: .........................

Only part I'm missing and a rare bird indeed, must be >190cms, wider than 100mms, relatively stiff with relatively little sidecut. Don't need special bc skis cause either of my everyday boards will be fine for that.

Of course everyone should have some specialized other boards and I have a small fleet of them too but they don't loom large.

    Talking Hmmm . . .

Any amount of skis eh . . .

-Fatypus Alotas for huge gnarly deep powder
-Volkl Sumos in a 175 for lesser huge gnarly deep powder
-Volkl Gotamas in a 176 for big mountain
-Volkl Mantras in a 177 for backcountry (with rando's)
    -Volkl Karmas in a 177
-Another pair of Volkl Karmas with randos for summer bc
-Another pair of Volkl Karmas to learn how to tele on
-Some Volkl Dragon Slayers for me to ski bumps like those olympic types do
-K2 Fujactives in a 169 so I can learn how to slide rails
-LIne Elizebeths in a 172 for bc kickers
-Some Supercross skis to do Chinese Downhill on
-Old K2 Grateful Dead skis for special occasions (opening/closing days)
-the first volkl explosives to bring out on wind buffed days
-Dynastar Legend Pros in a 177 (coming out next year) for hauling ass down huge wind packed faces
-and finally, some Line Invaders to mess around with in my yard. (its a light ski, so its easy to spin big with.)

All of these (with the exception of the mantras, two pairs of the karmas, the grateful dead skis, and the invaders) would be mounted with Salomon 914s. The mantras and one pair of the karmas would be mounted with Naxo 01's. The other pair of karmas, and the grateful dead skis would be mounted with tele bindings. The Invaders would be mounted with the Salomon 912 binding to save weight.

    Awwwwwwwwww Yeah!

Its seems strange that I'm the only one with a huge amount of skis on that list. Maybe I have to much time to dream.

    Bandit XXX 1,88m 2000 for fast riding;
    Volant Chubb 1,78m 2003 with Spademan: to make big impression on lift-lines;
    Volant Machete 1,75m 2004: carving on hard-pack
Volkl Explosiv 1,73m 2003: to look the Seigneur des Anneaux on the surface, cool!
    Volkl Explosiv 1,80m 2002: just to remember that I drove 1000 milles to get them brand new and very low price;
    Volant Spatula 1,86m 2004: use once. What I dangerous slide on hard pack. I was very tired at the base of the mountain;
Nordica W-105 1,70m 2002: forget about these, one ski is delaminated. What the Hell? The edge is unglue half the length on one ski.

Brand new 2 weeks ago: Volkl Sumo 1,75m. I hears sounds of kamikaz battle in the barn. Japanese wrestler against future Lotus Samurai? They might be the ultimate tool like Lotus 120 (Feb 2006?)...

and what a nice bump it is...

I spend tons of time thinking and talking about this with my skiing buddies, and none of us ever come to a decent conclusion, we just keep adding things to the list till it might as well be the recomended skis list.

    But for starters,
    185 armada arvs (have)
    Ak rocket swallowtails (have)
Legend Pro XXLs (will have next year)
this will be my realistic quiver next year, in addition to that:

    DP Lotus 138
Some sort of custom made super stiff capital or igneous super gun type skis, not sure what
205 Ak rocket team version (something like 115 underfoot i think?) for heli skiing (cus if i can afford all these skis i ccould definitly afford to go heli skiing a ton)

and heres where it starts getting silly...

    185 Armada ar5s
    Armada ANTS
    Made'n Aks
    193 big daddies
    sumos
    186 legend pros
atomic gs super g and downhill skis

ok i better stop myself before this gets too long.

Anytime there's fresh snow in-area: db Tabla Rasa 186cm midflex - Bishop Bomber
Everyday in-area: Atomic Big Daddy Silver/Orange 193cm - Bishop Bomber
    Alternate in-area: db/dp Surreal/Wailer 185cm stiff - Voilé CRB w/VP-II
    Everyday touring: db/dp Surreal/Wailer 185cm stiff - Voilé CRB w/3-pin Hardwire
Spring or long-distance touring: Dynafit FR 10.0 178cm - Karhu 7TM Tour (hopefully retrofit with power strap next year)
East coast conditions ice skates: Fischer Big Stix 7.6 175cm - Voilé CRB w/VP-II
Early season rock skis in-area: Dynastar Nobis Inspired 178cm - Rottefella Chili Cobra
Early season rock skis touring: Voilé Mtn Surf 175cm - Voilé 3-pin cable
Retro Days: Dynastar Course SL Ceramic 200cm - Voilé CRB w/3-pin cable (with leather boots, natch)
Meadow skipping: Tua Montet MX 195cm - Rottefella 412

...if I had to choose a ski as my all-rounder quiver of one, it would prolly be the Surreal/Wailer.

And the ski I don't have, but really want for dem huuumongous days: dp Lotus 138 192cm flex 2.

    Hmm..getting there slowly.

Powder days : Völkl Sumo 175cm + Alpines : Check.
    Normal days : Head im.103s 183cm + Alpines : Check.
Steep days : Völkl Explosivs 180cm + Alpines : Check
Park days : BD Havocs 173cm + Alpines : Check.
Icy days : Atomic SL 9 165cm + Alpines : Check. (Well, they are my wives)

    And.

Rando Days : BD Havoc 183cm + Dynafits : Check.
But this is the part i would like to change to DP Wailers, 175 or 185cm´s.

And the monsters are falling apart,so maybe replace them with LP´s or the 07 rossi b-squads in 184cm..

And i just sold my old tele sticks, so would need to have something there.

    And...

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

    OK, I'll play too:

    Touring: Dynafit FR10 with comforts
Tele: 190 Völkl Explosives with Linkens
Everyday alpine: 183 Head M103 (a softer pair)
Powder days: Could be several Sanouk? Original Tabla Rasa? Iggys? Big Daddy?

And this at a time when I'm "rationalising" the quiver...
