BC (Ski Press)-After running Monashee Powder Adventures Cat Skiing for seven years, Nick and Ali Holmes-Smith have sold Tsuius Lodge to their former partners in MPA and have formed Mustang Powder Cat Skiing, anchored by the brand-new Anstey Lodge. Other than the name, this restructuring will create no noticeable change for guests. The Holmes-Smiths will continue to run the lodge and company - with many of of the same guiding, kitchen and lodge staff returning for the upcoming season.
Largely through client referrals and the underground ‘powder telegraph,’ Mustang Powder is already a major player in the BC snowcat skiing industry. The skiable terrain encompasses 125 sq. kilometres, accessed by over 200 kilometres (120 miles) of cat-roads. Anstey is also situated on one of the snowiest locations on the planet – snowfall depth at a nearby mine was once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Now complete, the remote Mustang Lodge is a magnificent timber frame structure with spectacular alpine and glacier views. Unlike some cat skiing operations, Mustang Powder offers vast, above-treeline terrain on the nearby Mustang Glacier and in alpine meadows. There’s high quality powder snow from the beginning of December through early April. During storms, the best skiing can be found in the trees where the visibility is good and where guests learn the meaning of ‘steep and deep’.
