    WD-40 in phone charging port?

Most of my phone charging ports end up showing a water (sweat) in charging port warning during tours. Over time, they usually become finicky probably due to oxidation from sweat. Yes, I could use a plug, but I’d probably lose or forget it most of the time. Does anyone have any reasonable objections to putting a drop of WD-40 in the port? Sure, it might pack dust more quickly, but that’s easy to clean.

I think you’d be better off with a small amount of dielectric grease.

    WD-40 in phone charging port?

I use a case that covers the port and that worked for me, had the same issue with my older phones.

    This might be the answer.

    That's what I do, when it's moist.
I'd probably use CRC instead of WD.

I had to get a wireless charger for my last FireWire phone.

I would think wd40 would gunk it up even more? Dust getting glued in to the port etc. I got a little magnetic plug in the socket, which keeps it relatively water resistant. You need the corresponding cable that docks to the magnet to charge, but worth the investment.

Dielectric grease is a good suggestion as WD40 might damage the plastic and seals. WD-40 is nice because it does not pack as much gunk. I will probably brush a bit of dielectric grease and wipe it. BTW dielectric grease, silicone grease and brake lubricant are usually the same thing that can also be used on bindings. It's always wet here and I go fast and hard. Ziplock baggie and plugs are too much of a hassle.

This is probably not relevant but...when I was snorkeling in Hawaii this winter I accidentally soaked my phone in salt water. Started getting the constant message about water in the port. Plus the usual software wonkiness that comes with a water damaged phone. Figured it was toast for sure and would eventually die. My wife suggested setting it on the bathroom counter with a hair dryer on low heat a couple inches away blowing into the charging port. Did this like an hour a day for a few days and it actually seemed to cure it. Been over a month now and no more messages or wonkiness. YMMV
