    Tariffs

With the 25% tariffs going into effect tomorrow, is this the end of Corbetts and many other international gear pricing deals? 25% surcharge on all purchaes.
    What a bummer.

    Make skiing great again.

Lets try not to voice political opinions, because that never ends well. I just wanted to make this change known and see what experiences people are having with this.

Largest single tax increase on average Americans. Since the implementation of income tax.

/shrug. I live in JP. You have any idea how expensive imports are? Welcome to our world. As an American living abroad-- I'd say it's about time your president reciprocated import duties. Because maybe now JP will drop them and make importing stuff affordable again. I would love to spend less than fifteen dollars on a stick of deodorant.

Yup. Tariffs are a tax and will weaken the US economy.

Trump does not want to help average Americans. He wants to help himself and his rich buddies.

Just wait until the stock market crashes (and the recession hits). Then Trump will get rid of the tariffs. Though knowing him he probably already shorted the market.

Everyone in Canada (and the rest of the world) knows that he is a complete moron. Hopefully you ‘mericans will figure that out too.

A large portion of us know his deal. Alas, too many either do not, don't care, or agree.

With that said, there's an exemption for goods less than $800, so most purchases from Corbetts ought to be fine.

just got an email from corbetts "As tariffs on imported goods take effect on Tuesday March 4th, we want to help cover the cost of the 25% fee. If you are buying from the US, there will be a 12.5% tariff tax applied to your purchase, Corbetts will cover the other 12.5%. Thank you for continuing to shop with us."

There's not. Corbetts announced today they're eating 12.5%, and Americans will have to pay the other half. No de minimus, at least according to corbetts.

It would be nice if receipts would include the tariff as a line item.

Got my email today. Half the tariff hitting a single pair of Pivot fifteens. Oh well, still an amazing deal.

Corbetts is charging these fees erroneously. $800 De minimus exemption is still in place until the US gets systems up and running (with no set implantation date yet) to accurately process the tariffs on consumer goods shipments

The policy is changing seemingly (idiotically) daily, I don't blame them for acting conservatively.

I know politics isn’t what tgr is about. But it’s kinda funny how Trump only put a ten percent tariff on Canadian energy. Then today Ontario says nope it’s gonna be a retaliatory twenty five percent on Cdn energy.

Now Donald is saying we should negotiate and work something out.

    Moronic.

The exchange rate for me in Canada was so shit, and the cost of shipping getting so high, there is very few purchases I would consider making from the US before the tarrifs... No chance now.

Currently they are preoccupied with their direct neighbours, but it's only a matter of time before the tariff train hits Europe. I wonder how that's going to effect the ski industry in general. It's hard enough to keep track of which multi conglomerate owns what. A US owned company manufacturing skis in the EU? How's that going to affect prices for example? Same with boots made in Italy?

Got an email from Corbetts today that confirmed what Muggy said. No tariffs on purchases under the de minimus level. So buy your Stocklis and bindings in two transactions

Hawley Smoot big factor in Great Depression IIRC

and the Mass Ave bridge between Beantown and The People’s Republic of Cambridge was measured in Smoots many decades ago, the MIT Smoot human measuring stick presumably related to Smoot of the eponymous bill
