Wallace & Lookout?

Got a free day between Schwietzer & Whitefish next week, and considering a night in Wallace & 1/2 day at Lookout Pass?

Worth it? Town looks funky. Or maybe Silver?

    Thanks!!

    Wallace & Lookout?

Wallace is a pretty cool little town for what it is. Funky is a fair description, but in a good way. Plenty of good food options. I have more fun hanging in Wallace over Kellogg. Lots of decent backcountry near by. Skiing is more entertaining at Silver if both have good snow

Echoing what bourbonisgood said. Wallace is a great little town with exceptional dining. They have been upscaling the dining for a few years and it shows. Blackboard cafe is a must eat. Silvers terrain is a better option but lookout can be fun if good snow.

My go to is the FairBridge Inn in Kellogg. It’s about a half a block walk to the Silver Mt gondola. The Radio Brewing pub has solid brew and food. Better terrain options at Silver than Lookout in my opinion.

Silver is a bigger and better mountain than Lookout. If you want to stay it Wallace it's like 10 minutes down i90.

I’m also old enough to remember when Silver was named Jackass.

JFC this thread is reminding me just how old I am. It really doesn’t seem that long ago. Get off my lawn you punks!

Silver has better terrain but if you only have half a day you want guide. Lookout is more self explanatory.

Consider going the other way around. Stay in Libby, ski Turner.

I skied a day at Lookout two weekends ago on my way to Big Sky. I prefer Lookout over Silver myself. The terrain at lookout is pretty tame but it was perfect for my youngest daughter who is fully capable but struggling a little with confidence following a broken leg a couple seasons back. For me, Lookout is a throwback to what skiing should be. No pretense, inexpensive tickets, inclusive across incomes, short lift lines, good vibes. You can get a cup-o-noodle with hot water for $1.50 in the big tent/lodge.

Lookout is having a much better snow year than this time last year. Good coverage and everything is open.

We slept in the car in the lot this time but next year I'll do the same trip and we'll likely stay in Wallace (or Mullen). Wallace has a half dozen hotels or so. Looks like a fun town for a night. They had a skijoring competition two weekends ago but we skied instead of watching that.
