Chat, and really the Padded Room in general, and what seemed like the big participants at the time in Basom, Mild Bill, Iceman and the rest of the Boston crowd filled my old office in finance with lots and lots of laughs.

Discord is rough bc it's a rolling single thread, even if you divide it up into various threads. Good for bullshitting but bad for an info repository like this place

I think the consensus here and on the FB page is that people generally don’t like or use FB anymore. Personally, I log in one or twice a year to sell or buy stuff via marketplace. Otherwise it’s basically MySpace (RIP).

I enjoy Reddit but that’s just my $.02

FB sucks and always has- the forum model is the only one designed to be more than useless blather. You can see the enshittification effect for anywhere that gets too popular and the moron brigade arrives- Reddit was never 'great' but it is a lot worse now.

I think we could possibly start an r/TGR (or possibly r/TRG) subreddit. Would suck to not have the sub-sub hierarchy though.

    Agree No to FB.

Also not too psyched about Discord. I’m too ancient to figure it out and I’m not a CoD edge lord. Though it might solve the subhierarchy issue.

I hate to think so much of my time and life spent here could go up in smoke. I would happily pay a reasonable annual subscription for the Jones Bros to fix this place up.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Thanks to IRUL and the Tanner Hall RIP Streif Thread I inadvertantly thought, what about a slow, casual, takeover of Newschoolers? They're still a forum right? They have functioning photo and video hosting right?

Doesn't have to be overt or anything. Just start a bunch of similarly titled threads over there and start commenting on them same as we do here. By the time they get wise, it'll be too late.

We’d all be banned from SkiTalk/pugski on the first day.

I like the Newschoolers takeover idea. Think of the hilarity we could create responding to treads like this one.

Until TGR implodes or Newschoolers takes over, if you are in a pinch to get an image seen, try using image urls from either your own server or other links: ‘[img]’

From what I’ve seen, yes. But wan’t on Epic and not on SkiTalk. And not necessarily a complaint about SkiTalk, they just very intentionally don’t want to host the types of discussions that are often found here.

Wow. It's going to take them some time to get used to the problems the 40 and up crowd faces in comparison to that brain-scratcher.

usually, it's the web access that works -- seemingly it's effed for the last few days
can't see any pics; can't edit posts; can't see posts from ignored idiots (not too terrible)

app works better for seeing pics/links, but still has the emoji-reply-sauce going

and we're still anchored to this high pressure knob off the coast in the pnw...maybe some wet end of next week? but then still dry looking further out...

New school takeover is hilarious. Might be some real after school special stuff as the crusty old farts get to be friends with the snot-nosed punks.

Just to document the weirdness, maybe: can't post on mobile anymore but for the first time in years the edit in mobile worked lately--unless you've come to understand the mobile edit button to mean "delete," in which case it's all gone to crap.
