Considering that Fat Joe cursed the Yankees when he walked all over the mound in those big boots, I can accept that. Though I think I still can wait until opening day.

The longest tenured owner in Cleveland baseball history, Larry Dolan, passes at 94. I wonder if this will accelerate new minority owner David Blitzer (76ers, NJ Devils, Crystal Palace, Washington Commanders, Joe Gibbs Racing) becoming the majority owner. On one hand I hope so because I'm so sick of shit payrolls. On the other hand, Dolan was a Clevelander through and through and brought consistency to the club, from 20+ years for the front office team to on field talent like Tito and Josey; and you just can't put a value on that.
    RIP

Manfred to consider a petition to posthumously remove Pete Rose from the ineligible list which would open up a path to the HoF for Rose. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pete-ro...eligible-list/That tracks.

MLB season started this morning in Tokyo which is great for the Dodgers and global superstar Ohtani.

It is not great, however, for MLB.

How many people could tell you that the season started 13 time zones ahead of the east coast this morning? Even die hard fans would probably tell you that the season starts a week from now.

The season used to officially start with the Cincinnati Reds and not a game before. Now the Reds still get to always open at home, but the tradition of the oldest team in baseball kicking off the season went away a while ago. The Reds provide MLB a glaring example of how you should do Opening Day right - its a regional holiday with people taking thier kids out of school, a parade that winds through downtown, and a block party all around the stadium - you know when baseball is back if you're in Cincinnati.

The rest of America? Not so much.

East coast and midwest teams having Game 1 first pitches across the counrty at 10pm sucks. Opening up the season in another country, or on the road in minor league parks, and other gimicks sucks. Every other pro sports league has figured out how to make the start of their season a date that is circled on the calendar and must see TV, why then, does MLB refuse to figure out what used to be known as the unofficial start of summer?

Look, I like games in Tokyo, and the DR, and anywhere else you can grow the game internationally, just don't do it on Opening Day.

Besides, can you even call it Opening Day if there's no bunting (the decorative kind)? We used to be a proper country.

    So dumb.

As stupid as Kirby and Rice being in the hall instead of Dwight Evans.

Meanwhile for the Toronto market, our home opener is one of the few Appletv only games.

I was flipping channels last night before bed and saw the Guardos - Reds was on MLB Network with the Guards' tv crew doing the game. Pretty much a final tune up with all starters going in their normal spots, and Biebee going 6 IP and getting the W in a 3-0 game. Not going to lie, I got excited for baseball to be back. And also remembered I have to buy my tv package.

Agree with everything here except the Tokyo series. MLB just sold out both games for top dollar and twenty five million Japanese fans tuned in. WS ratings were damn near equal in Japan and the US, despite them having one third the population. That’s how you grow the game. Plus US opening day will still kick ass.

Also no Mookie, no Freddie, no matter.

Still excited for opening day, even with the damage to the rotation with Cole, ROTY Gil, and [emoji638][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]][emoji638][emoji640] [emoji638].[emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji640]][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]era Clarke Schmidt all out.

If Cookie Carrasco, Belli, and Goldi all turn the clock back [emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]-[emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]] years while Volpe, Wells, and the Martian take huge steps forward it’s “Dodgers who?”.

Baseball is of course famously the kind of sport where everything always goes your way, too.

Anyway, it should be a good year in the al east with a bunch of teams with a fighting chance.
