Heh, heh, fishermen are easier to get to rise than fish. Sorry, plugboots slow day for me.

We've had a cold front and rain the past few days, and water levels in the big rivers have dropped a few inches over the past forty-two hours. I think I'll try fishing at the mouth of a local creek tomorrow and see what the Almighty will do to help me catch something.

Never touched it - grabbed the fly and quick release. Not a guide - I don’t fish with guides.

Edited to say sorry I missed the point of your comment, I agree with everything you wrote below.

I may be mistaken, but I'd guess plugboots was being ironical about the gloves, since he was accused of killing trout by handling them wearing gloves some time back.

Yup.
I’ll take this moment to explain that wearing gloves does not kill fish, nets do not kill fish, dragging them on the bank does not kill fish, etc. it’s not black and white. In almost all the New Zealand vids I watch they use those knotted nets or get the fish in the shallows, and coral them on the rocks.
These are typically old ginormous trout. They’ve been caught before.
But guess what? It’s a blood sport and a lot of times they die anyway.

Well I went to the place I like to ironically call the super secret spot, at the mouth of a tributary creek. It is in full view of a hotel overlooking the river as well as a bridge featuring a lower level for bike and pedestrians, the shore is a popular spot for sunbathers on hot days. Often there will be several fishermen fishing about seventy five yards of river downstream of the confluence. There is likely no better known fishing spot in Missoula. However, this afternoon, inexplicably, I was the only one there fishing.

The tributary creek is in full runoff, however the water is cold and clear and creates good visibility for a ways downstream from where it enters. Because it is so popular I have not been going there this spring, but the fishing there can be pretty good, and this was very much the case today. I caught a dozen trout, both rainbows and cutt-bows, and three whitefish as well. I caught a couple skinny 17 inch males, and a couple plump 16 inch females, and all within three hours time. The big fish of the day took an olive Pat's rubberlegs, but deposited a chewed up night crawler in my net. A hot head worm caught most of the fish, but the Pat's got three of them.

A great afternoon on the river!

Great to see the forum back up and some activity in here, hope your all having a good spring . I sure have a soft spot for this old relic of the internet.

Tele, nice perm! I put 60hrs on the bow this year and still sitting at 0. I’d happily take the bycatch suicidal fish and count it as #1 all day! Hopefully the beginning of a hot streak for you.

Nice weather in central WY. first weekend not in waders or muck boots. Felt good to get feet in the river.

back from 5 days on the Deschutes. Golden stones and salmon flies are emerging, but, cool weather is delaying the hatch a bit
small fish are falling for the dupe, big fish ain't. A great time on the river, other than the ticks, poison oak and buzzworms .....

Cheeky Schoolie Tournament was so much fun.
Fishing was really, really tough. We scratched. Talked to a LOT of folks having a tough go of it. Out of 250 teams, 44 put up measurable fish (20+") and only 28 teams caught more than one over 20. Will be back for redemption.
No photos to show, even if i had some the forum wouldn't allow me to post!
