    Ikon vs epic

    Cage match fight.

Sadly I’ve ended up with the I can’t ski crowd. They have the hills I want to ski. A lot of old mountain collective resorts.
MC was when tickets went three figures. But you got half off. Fiddy bucks wasn’t bad.

Now a window ticket is two hundo or more.

    Where does this end?
I just want to ski and dirtbag with pocket meats.
    Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
    Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

    Ikon vs epic

Be a dentist among dentists and buy both. Add an Indy pass for good measure. Chase the storms in your 4wd sprinter van.

(Honestly people want to hate the multi-mountain passes but the ikon regardless of the insane window rates is actually a pretty damn good deal.)

They are an absolutely insane deal for people who ski a lot, but I'm holding out hope that the mega passes collapse. FWIW, Alterra made a mid-season change to have no blackout dates at solitude with a base pass. That can't be a sign of prosperity...

My epic is already paid for with 7+1 days in the Canadien Rockies. I could spend the rest of the yr skiing free at whistler, breck, where ever, but the best part is, I’m not stuck anywhere. I’ll hit 5 resorts in the man made category the next two weeks. Hopefully that turns into snowmagedeon, we can be hopeful.

I have neither. Got Abasin, MC, and Silverton Unguided. None of the local CO Epikonic resorts really appeal to me. If I travel to ski, the MC gets me 2 days, which is enough usually since most places have multiple spots to hit like GT and Jackson, or Alta/Bird/Snowbasin. I'll hit Silverton for a few weekends, that's the best deal in skiing IMHO.

I’ve had ‘em all over the years depending on where I’m travelling on a particular Winter. They get me off the L’East Coast each year which is nice. Last year was Mountain Collective and it worked out well for the loop we were on. Bonus for meeting great Mags for driveway space and turn n’ burns.

This year it is Epic because it gets me unlimited at Andermatt Ski Arena in Switzerland for a month and the EuroGrumble shindig.

Pick your poison. Then, Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Not a dentist but I get a bunch of passes.

Retired military -> $172 Epic (unlimited, no blackouts)
Retired military -> $789 full Ikon
Retired military -> $395 Magic Mtn
Magic Mtn pass -> Indy add-on for $195

There's not a lot of places I can't ski for free with that lineup. In New England I've got almost everything worth skiing covered except Smuggs (have a close friend that is director of retail there) and Mad River Glen (used to ski at Magic with the current GM there and my skiing buddy from high school is a lifty there) so I can usually score $25 friends and family tix at those 2 spots. Can't cover Grand Targhee with any of those passes which makes me sad.

The last year AIG owned Stowe, an unlimited pass there cost $550 more than my pass collection.

I bought both the epic and ikon this year (I bought the ikon last spring to get two days in at mammoth and one at squaw valley) . The total cost won't be much more than I paid to ski 30 days buying day tickets in the 80's.

I have the Ikon base as an add on to Alta. Loveland season pass has always been able to get me to plenty of places through the Powder Alliance. Between the two season passes with the add on it will round out my trips nicely. I think I paid 349 for the Ikon add on and the Alta/Loveland have become a built in cost of doing business for long enough that I dont even notice the 349. Add on the days at Taos and it's a winner.

If you're in CO, Epic resorts are way less busy right now. Literally the entire front range has an Ikon pass and it's shown that last couple years.

I'm in Breck and weekends have been quite tolerable (except during the holiday break)

I don’t know, I was at Copper this weekend and it was empty! Maybe a ton of people stopped skiing? One can hope, right?

Yeah yesterday was fine, no line at super b. Flyer looked a little screwy for my tastes and that thing stops way too much. I think the real crowds will be upon us Thursday though.
