copied from Quora but thought funny , you would have thought US would have only tariffed real countries - below needs a gif of penguins

Why has Trump imposed a 10% tariff on islands occupied solely by penguins? Where is the reciprocity here? Those lying cheating-a$$ penguins have been “RIPPING OFF AMERICA”. Trump said it and he is not at all known for lying or Making Shit Up™, right? Those penguins will now be paying an extra 10% as a consequence of their penguin actions towards the USA. This has hit the penguin markets very strongly, and I believe a lynch mob is forming as rage takes hold of small angry capitalist penguin hearts……but King Trump will stand strong in the face of even this sort of united backlash. THE PENGUINS WILL PAY! King Trump is a jeeneeous, a visionary!I’d state I made that up but Trump is indeed tariffing islands with no humans on them and who knows, maybe the capitalist penguins are angry about it and forming a lynch mob.Trump did it because Trump is a f#cking idiot who has no idea what the hell he’s talking about. He got his tariff list off a cereal box or something and doesn’t even recognise the countries (or remote barren islands) on it, let alone know whether the tariff data is correct or not.

However, the elasticity of import prices with respect to tariffs should be about one (actually 0.945), not 0.25 as the Trump Administration states. Their mistake is that they base the elasticity on the response of retail prices to tariffs, as opposed to import prices as they should have done. The article they cite by Alberto Cavallo and his coauthors makes this distinction clear. The authors state that “tariffs [are] passed through almost fully to US import prices,” while finding “more mixed evidence regarding retail price increases.” It is inconsistent to multiply the elasticity of import demand with respect to import prices by the elasticity of retail prices with respect to tariffs.

Correcting the Trump Administration’s error would reduce the tariffs assumed to be applied by each country to the United States to about a fourth of their stated level, and as a result, cut the tariffs announced by President Trump on Wednesday by the same fraction, subject to the 10 percent tariff floor. As shown in Table 1, the tariff rate would not exceed 14 percent for any country. For all but a few countries, the tariff would be exactly 10 percent, the floor imposed by the Trump Administration.

Carney said the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union serves as a cautionary tale.

"It took some time for the impacts of Brexit to filter through to the U.K. economy, but I have seen this movie before," Carney said, referring to his work managing that country's economic response to Brexit as head of the Bank of England.

"I know exactly what is going to happen.… The Americans are going to get weaker."

My eldest kid, dual US/Can citizen, loves Kicking Horse. He says the better blends aren't shipped down here. Or at least he hasn't found them in our local stores.

I normally drink Kicking Horse when I'm in Canada... but since my grocery has it I thought I'd buy it for solidarity. Normally I get the super fresh roasted stuff from my local roasterie down the rd.

Grizzly Claw is a good dark roast.

I got more into light and medium as I got into my mid 30s, but I still like dark.

When I was working crazy shifts I developed an eye twitch from all the espresso and would have to go cold turkey and reintroduce. So I often mix half calf with some mountain water process decaf. So a good dark roast in a half calf has the flavor to carry it and also actually has less caffeine than medium/light. So I can enjoy more!

Everyday I just shake my head in disbelief at how stupid Dumps economic advisory team is. It should be clear to anyone with half a brain what he has done has severely weakened America's place in the world and consequently are standing and the reserve currency we enjoyed. I am now looking forward to the dollar tracking the Mexican peso.

Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

They are probably dumb but Trump makes it up as he goes " neuron flashes " as Bolton told us Trump never reads any memos so the advisors do not advise anything they just kiss his ring and see how long they can stay where the power is altho in v2 we do not know how many people he has gone thru in the white house like we heard about in v1

Canada is a G7 country it is not going to become 51 neither is greenland so ever one in the world is just going to find other places to buy shit so once they go they wont becoming back to deal with someone who screwed them so the USA will become weaker in 4 yrs the gulf of america will be renamed the golf of mexico

70 million Americans believed the lies still do listen to and love muh president

My son buys Grizzly Claw whole bean.

My wife does a half caffeine mix of various sorts. It's amusing at times.

I gave up coffee for loose leaf tea from the Assam region of India. There's a couple of breakfast blends from Ireland and the UK that use Assam. I drink those when I need the convenience of a bag.

Border related, a friend was coming BACK from states and was pulled over by US border before the border and checked out in a aggressive manor . BC plates 65 year old woman and 70 year old US male. Yes Lee them. I've never heard about a exit check at US /Can border. Maybe with drop in travel looking for people to hassle?

.....they are probably jealous of the ICE goons breaking car windows and kidnapping people so they were hoping to have they own moment to terrorize someone.

Its interesting that at beginning of this thread there was concern that Canadians would treat Americans badly which I don't think has come to pass. It seems strongly that the opposite has happened. Of course not all Americans but it does seem that the constant rhetoric that Canada has been unfair, cheated etc and by extension that the Canadian people included have also , have caused many incidents of telling the fewer Canadians visiting to go home. At the same time local news all over the States is documenting the local impacts of the drop of Canadian tourism. You kind have understand it , if you a MAGA of limited knowledge and other stuff are over and over total that the US subsidises Canada to $200billion and you're not doing well, a level of dislike /hate would build up. Interesting what the long term affects will be.

Yeah snow birds are leaving selling their codo's and Canadians are not spending money in America but I think that is really smaller potatoes I am curious what the number are on the big potatoes but its still only 100 days the MAGA who believe Canada ripped off America after Trump signed an agreement are not the sharpest knives in the drawer so i imaging when they hurt trump will just tell them more lies which they will believe According to all the polls by 8 ponits in another week or 2 Carney will most likely be the new PM and then things will get more interesting
