Is it correct that as of today, there are no tariffs on Canadian goods? The steel/aluminum tariffs aren’t until March 12, the others have been postponed.

So perhaps this is still a bunch of puff the magic orange man bluff.

Or, am I missing an actual tariff that has been enacted?

That is ^^ my understanding so far its only threats and trump could very likely postpone tafrrifs again on march 12 becuz companies are telling their congressman who are telling trump this is all fucked BUT it makes business pretty hard to plan for on both sides of the line

so someone tell me, apparently he canned a bunch of newest govy folk to save money but he canned the new people ? So its common in buiness to right size but you get rid of the people making the most money by packaging/ canning the old workers so he did do it entirly backwards ?

SO trump is fucking every body up and I predict a recession which he will then blame on Biden

If the West Coast and New England joined Canada, we might be on to something. I wonder how much of US GDP that would represent

Id wager a significant portion of it. Hell, California by itself would provide a shitload of it...

this is a common misperception around probationary status. While It is true that brand new people are in a probationary period after hiring, people also go on probation every time they change positions. So, every step you move up, you have to go through a probationary period to make sure you are not gonna fuck that job up. So that means a lot of experienced people and managers who took a new job as the next step in their careers, are the ones being fired.

Is the US going to Annex Canada? by force? or just destroy the Canadian Econ for fun

White House statement prior to the hockey final: “Trump looks forward to watching the game and we look forward to watching the United States beating our soon to be 51st state”

oh but hey - none of the threatened tariffs are in place yet so why are Canadians angry? Calm down - it’s just prank bro.

We would have to come up with a new name for the republic. Coerced States of America? Maybe the Subjugated States? Indentured States?
    What else we got?

    Benny,

One could argue Americans feel a similar unease at the threat of tariffs. I realize what we think matters naught, but it does indeed cause significant distress in my mind.

Maybe, but in my work/social circles nobody talks politics so who knows. I don’t think you can necessarily make that assumption.

Well, it is true that eligible voters who chose not to vote are a bigger group than the number of people that voted for either candidate. I really don't know what's wrong with those idiots

And the true failure of both our democracies. The carrot of a functioning democracy doesn’t seem to entice them, so maybe it’s time to apply the stick. Not sure what form that should be, maybe some form of community or military service? But this really needs to change.

It's all part of a ploy to get Canada to contribute more toward America's military might that is providing default security for Canada as well as a lot of other countries around the world. That's the end game and the purpose of the threats and schoolyard bullying.

yeah so the reason there was a DEW line is so ICBMs could be intercepted and blown up before they hit American airspace so there was noting altruistic about it at all

so Canada is looking at border security but we know that is not what any of this is about

so rigth now on the CBC the premier of ontario is telling me he doesnt know what trump wants and it would seem nobody does

I think nobody down there knows either i think trump is making it up as he goes

so for anybody to think there is some agenda of a special genius they will be wrong its just some fucking idiot

Yes Canada needs to spend more on its own military and security.

But that it gets phrased as “they need contribute more to America’s military” is not surprising.

And is laughable that any citizen would pretend to know the true motivations behind anything coming out of the circus that is the Trump admin at this point.

Calling it a circus is a bit generous and somewhat insulting to circuses. It's an escaped chimp exhibit that is now ripping things off the walls, masturbating, and flinging their own excrement.
