I agree with you, but as our recent election results show, there are _way_ more credulous regards than I would have guessed 9 years ago

Meh. Four years and he's gone. Maybe he'll even die in office, the fat bastard. We'll get through this.

I’m happy for Canada the conman caved. For now. He and Elon are cunts for destroying our reputation and government. Hope his depraved low IQ followers annihilate him for not ‘making money off tariffs so they can get a tax break’.

Maybe time you southern republic folk might consider changing your political system. Looks like it needs a few more safeguards built into it, especially when two of your three branches of govt are asleep at the wheel. Might want to consider a parliamentary democracy - and the monarchy part is optional and doesn’t actually make any decisions.
Seriously, looks like your choice of supreme leader wants to order the casting of a crown. What the fuck did your fight the war of independence for?

His dad made it to ninety three, his mom eighty eight. Presumably they didn’t mainline chicky nugs, but still seems unlikely he’s going anywhere anytime soon.

I think Trump knows exactly how much it would have cost but the figures would have just gone in one ear and then out

but since Canada wasn't backing down trump had to

    thats right trump backed down

but not really and only for 1 month right

what do you think will happen in 1 month ?

and besides he doesnt really understnd how Tarrifs work cuz he thinks canada will pay them but its the importer who payes

suddenly that place who supported him isnt selling any bourbon to Canada and all that Alberta Crude is getting hit with 25% tarrifs so RUG is 75cnets gallon more and all those cars on both sides of the border arent getting built

this system quoting the wrong quote sure sucks

Weren't you the one saying Trump would be good for your own personal bottom line? "Good for those with money to deploy" I believe is how you put it. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

In the context of the Stockmarket thread re whether to leave money invested or not, I still believe that's accurate and even more so for Americans. After all most of you have no meaningful way of escaping the US.

My situation and most Canadians is different in that we can control our exposure to the US. On a personal level I'd give up a lot for Canada to be (relatively) independent of what I've now come to see as a malign US government.

Multi-quote, then reply with quote, then delete the wrong quote.

And as an American, sorry. It's our turn to apologize.

Its becoming clear Trump wants Canada which I always thought was a poor taste joke but ...

    https://www.npr.org/2025/02/03/nx-s1...-for-americans

"For Canada, which has already added security at its border, the clearest demand is the one Trump put in writing on Truth Social: that Canada should give up its independence."
Mrs. Dougw- "I can see how one of your relatives could have been killed by an angry mob."

I live in a border town that enjoys the economic benefits of cross-border shopping, and the (mostly anti-trump) people here are (rightly) worried that Canadians will boycott America for the duration (as many have indicated they will on social media). But they were out in full force, braving the 22F/-6C temps and 20mph NE winds at costco filling their 5-gallon jugs last night - at a 3-to-1 ratio to locals.

I guess cheap gas trumps trump.

Just like in the states, only about 65% of eligible voters cast a ballot, and maybe half that are reasonably informed as to what is going on outside their local little bubble.
Which is why we are where we are.

They think Fox is news and Joe Rogan is independent. Though TBH, the Pelosi wing of the Dem party hasn't offered us any red meat for a very long time now

Doug: Its becoming clear Trump wants Canada
I've already said this somewhere (maybe even this thread): trump is obsessed with size. Or maybe lacking size. After 9/11 he actually said 40 Wall Street was the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and now its the tallest.

Uttering that statement should permanently disqualify a person from the presidency.

Anyway, annexing Canada makes the US the largest country. Even just getting Greenland moves America into number two. Yes, it really is that simple/stupid.

Oh, I am aware. I am in the American born branch of a cross-border family, and have lived on both sides of the 49th. I used to quip take away the accents, and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between someone from Vancouver, Seattle and Portland. Not sure that is true anymore.

Exactly this. Come on Iran, do the world a solid.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Things that trump Trump (and Elon)

-rural internet for Ford and his voter base

-Twitter, people just can't stay away

    -cheap gas

-People threatening to move from the United States if Trump is elected (twice). Nobody has left yet.

I get sick of the posturing over Trump and Elon. Sack up and boycott. Don't back down, or shut the fuck up. (Old TGR speak)
