Good words. Attacking a country is a great way to unify it.

The real danger is a shift, a new arrangement: no longer West and anti-West, but the United States against everyone else. A miscalculation. A mistake. And then, suddenly, a different world

It's already happened. There is zero reason to trust either the written or verbal or good faith commitment of the USA

Edit. By that I mean USA government (either present or future)

Presidents of both parties have for many years declared bogus national emergencies to justify executive orders. Congresses controlled by both parties have let them get away with it.. Congress folk are too busy raising money to be bothered with doing the job--passing actual budgets instead of continuing resolutions, declaring war, that kind of thing.

Meanwhile Trump's odd fixations--on tariffs, on Greenland, on water in California--seem to me to be signs of serious dementia. He may be more physically vigorous than Biden, he may make more sense speaking (provided you don't pay attention to what he's actually saying) but cognitively he's far worse off. 50 50 chance the 25th Amendment is invoked before his term is up.

The problem with escalating: Canada needs U.S. energy more than the U.S. needs Canada’s. Canada needs U.S. ports more than the U.S. needs Canada’s. Canada needs U.S. goods, with constant border crossings, between—more. And compounding everything is Trump—narcissist. No real negotiation, not really. Because the tariffs? No reason for them, not in any logical way. Options...

One: Give in, somehow, to some demand. But what demand? Hard to say. He is a liar, a narcissist. The demand itself may shift. Still, history is full of liars, narcissists. And yet—countries negotiate. Somehow.

Twi: You want a threat, a real one, something that makes him stop. But Canada alone—probably not enough. Still, there are others. The EU, China. Their trade under threat too. So maybe—something precise, something aimed, something that disrupts just enough, in just the right places. Enough to make Congress move.

Maybe it’s possible, if Mexico agrees—less illegal border crossings. If Mexico and Canada agree—some fentanyl action. Then maybe he lifts the tariffs. Maybe. The actions might mean something. Or not. They could be symbols, like China before—small gestures, then undone.

Source? That is contradictory to everything I’ve read about US refinery dependence on canadian heavy crude and lumber.

The United States and Canada are each other's largest energy trading partners. Energy travels between the two countries through: Natural gas and liquid fuel pipelines, Transmission points for electricity, and Cross-border electric transmission lines. In the past Canada exported much more electricity to the United States than it imported but now but the trade today is much more balanced due to lower U.S. natural gas prices. So in the east the U.S. imports more electricity and in the west Canada imports more, and so on down the line.

the whiz kid in calagry is telling me that whole drill baby drill thing is bulshit

CUZ everything you get out of the ground you export

refineries in the midwest are setup to run alberta crude period

it would take a long time and billions for them to retool

SO just add 75cnets to whatever you were paying cuz RUG is going to go UP

in spite of what muh president told me

but the point would BE that NA is all a delicate balancing act

from cars to oil to you name it the economy was just recovering from COVID

and Trump has upset it again and this is going to cost EVERYONE

on both sides of the line

America is coming for your ski villas and beautiful woman- and you will like it. If you don’t hand them over we’ll deport you to Mexico. Just be happy we’ll now make fixed rate mortgages and quid pro quo, available to you.

Seriously though I’m truly embarrassed for America and the actions of the many who gave power to such a vile group of idiot MFers in charge. It’s really a powerless feeling for the many good Americans who believe much differently than what’s being portrayed. I’m sorry.

Imagine an external threat that would unite the left and the right in America against a common foe. That’s what might happen north of the border.

Canucks are gonna figuratively and literally circle their wagons. The flag as a symbol of national pride will be taken back from the horse dewormer convoy crowd that co-opted it as a sign of someone who did their own Facebook research.

And Trump may have just handed the next Canadian election to Trudeau’s left wing party.

Art of the deal in real time.

Sir, this is a Canada thread. There's already another thread where you get to talk about the root of your pathology by discussing your tiny penis

lmao. You don't have to tell someone how much you're ignoring them if you're really ignoring them—you know you can just do it, right?
