Had a great day. Lift line on stairway was kinda long at about 11 but after that was almost nothing. Ending up doing two Fuez runs which were great. CPR north and south open but of course had to do second to get to top.

In away the gondi is at fault unless there is some sort of manufacturing defect in the steel that was there since fab or some sort of mechanical damage that started a crack in service. Really now its the design or KH. If the manufacturer in maintenance schedule check arm for cracks after so many 1000s of hours and KH didn't they are at fault. If not then the design has a life limit so has to be checked by some sort of testing , x ray, magnetic particle etc after x number of 1000 hours. Steel should if designed with the right factors of safety last forever and would never have to check other than corrosion.

If I recall correctly the gondola cabins that are at Khorse were originally purchased by SSV however Khorse project required them 1st and SSV gondola revamp was a year behind schedule so they were sent to Khorse….

The ones at SSV look actually like the KH ones esp looking at the arm. I would think lots of places will be looking at the arms if not now a big exam in the summer during the shoulder season.

Certainly the hangers on the RMR gondolas look the same as the Kicking Horse ones (though the cabins are different - RMR doesn't have the ski slots on the doors). I'm sure Poma and a lot of resorts - worldwide - are anxiously waiting on the investigation report. Unless it turns out to be clearly a one off failure due to abuse or a manufacturing defect that doesn't affect any other hangers there will need to be a lot of examination work.
Though I'm sure the detailed design and stresses of Poma CHAIRLIFT hangers is a bit different, the ones on the RMR chairs look pretty similar to the gondola hangers. If there is a basic design issue like corrosion problems or fatigue cracking that might affect Poma's chairlifts as well as their gondolas.

Speaking of old chairlifts… Castle was excellent over the past few days. Freezing levels are moving up, but the top 1/2 was still colder, winter snow. I think Fernie also got some snow.

Fernie was great over the weekend, but it looks warm and wet now...

Hey Rockies guys, looking at a possible swing out there 3rd week of April for 4 days of spring Louise. What skis should I bring and what will be the weather conditions.. haha. Kidding, kidding!! But I was wondering a couple of things. Does anyone have any deals on ticks. I did the math on a Louise card and it works out to about $127/day if i skied 4 days ($507 total), still a bit steep for this senior citizen on a fixed income haha. Also is there a decent spot to park the truck camper for a few nights nearby. No services needed. PM me if you can help a fat old mag out. Also would be pleased to spin some laps with any of you cats if this works out. No mandatory cliff hucks please.

Edit to add I am not quite senior enough to get the seniors discount at the lake.

Look on facebook marketplace, or buy/sell Usually some tickets avail for $100 ish.

And do you qualify for any "old fat" prices on tickets?

Camper: ask as customer service at the hill?

not much for free/drop camping in the national park, but this is a good option https://www.google.com/maps/place/51...oASAFQAw%3D%3D

@ Mtnlion 65 is when they start rewarding your miraculous feat of aging out. I'm still not there (but close). Thanks for the info on ticks, looks like it will probably be the last few days of operations when I'm there so hopefully someone will unload their unused tickets cheap. Mr dirt, thanks for the camping suggestions, overflow parking is definitely close enough for me.

For $36 a night you can camp at the LL Parks Canada campsite 10 minutes from the hill, Hot shower, water refill closet, 30 amps and sani dump. It's practially glamping.

Sorry - not stoke related, but I am looking for good boot fitter recommendations in the Calgary-Banff area. Anyone have some good suggestions? Pulse in Banff seems to get mentioned a lot. Are they the real deal?

Likely a complete new fit (shells, liners + footbeds). Open to re-using one of the shells I have with a new liner and footbed, but suspect I need to size down. I've gotten so much conflicting information over the years from boot fitters I've tried in Calgary, in terms of sizing and causes/solutions to my boot issues. I just want to find a shop that really knows boot fitting that I can go to.
For the last few years, I haven't been skiing much. So for a handful of days per season I would put up with the issues with my boots. But now that I'm getting back into it back and skiing much more like I used to, I want to just get the boot situation sorted.
I'll shoot you a PM if I have any specific questions, but I don't want to derail this thread into a boot discussion lol.

and a bit more off topic, is anyone coming up from whitefish area to banf and can bring me a few things I have waiting? I have a few small items (3 jeans and some nerdy small bike tools) waiting for me in kalispell and dont have any current plans of going south.

Will repay in maple donuts and other candy you can't get in 'merica

Ok so no interest in my katanas, but anyone around here want an excellent condition pair of pivot 15s in raw for $220?

I can probably meet up in the bow Valley sometime this spring if needed... I'm in NW Calgary for pickup, otherwise.

Should be skiing the lake Apr 16,17,18 if anyone would like to share a lap or 2. Looks like lift ticks will be 50% off with a season pass to another hill.
