Left Whistler on Saturday and came to Revelstoke via Sun Peaks. Revvy delivered! The morning load was thick on Monday but no lines on Tuesday and conditions were even better. Looks like I made the right call.

Oh wow that's a serious lineup. No alpine was opened on Sunday right
Correct, no alpine on Sunday. Things opened up fairly quickly on Monday. I skied Blackcomb and Glacier and Seventh were both loading before noon.
Hey was 7th loading at full capacity, no empty chairs? And at normal speed?
It was loading at full capacity and seemed like it was running at normal speed.
You mean you don't want to play gondola roulette?

The Kicking Horse Gondola is closed. On the other hand the Revelstoke gondola was also built by Poma and seems to be the same design![]()
Hey Whistler Mags,
I'm at Crested Butte this year, and lifts will close April 6, so my plan is to hit WB for 40 days until lifts close.
How is WB doing nowadays (snow coverage & operations), compared to last year? And compared to the pre-COVID era?
I did plenty of full seasons at WB before COVID. Then last year, I only did one 14-day trip to WB in mid-April...and I experienced some unexpected stuff:
- Pretty much every lift ran at half-speed for all 10 days that I skied in mid-April. WTF?
- Peak Chair typically didn't open until noon whenever there was like only 5 inches of new snow. WTF?
- Last year, Mother Nature didn't cover a lot of rocks on many of the steeper lines, even in mid-April...like Elevator was extra-spicy, Dilemma was still rocky AF in April (here's a vid of it in JAN last year, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1dFv6TPiWM )...etc. Can't blame Vail Corp for that...low-snow years happen sometimes.
So, is snow coverage better this year? Are lifts running at decent speeds this year?

It's been a late winter but tons of snow in the last few weeks so coverage is great, definitely better than last year from what I remember. Glaciated areas have some different terrain features due to glacier recession (Blackcomb Gl, Horstman Gl, Glacier Bowl on Whistler, Whistler bowl etc) but nothing major. There have been some lift issues this year (Glacier Chair broken gearbox, 7th motor issue) but everything seems to have ran mostly normal the past week or so. Lift reliability definitely feels worse in recent years. Whistler alpine has been opening at normal times this season I'd say, the only really late 12:30-1pm Peak days have been during huge cycles ontop of crappy surfaces which is normal.
Sounds good, thanks for the update!
I will show up around April 10, catch the end of WSSF, see the Swollen Members show, and ski until closing day.

With no new lift installs this summer lets hope for a bit more maintenance on the existing lifts. Even with all the recent upgrades the lift infrastructure is definitely showing its age. I really cant imagine this is happenstance. Its got to be a direct result of Vail ownership. Theyve emphasized new lifts over keeping the old lifts running well.</p>
Lift issues seem to be happening all over the place though, not just at Vail resorts.
Probably the same cause, though: cheaping out and/or delaying maintenance.
How’s the snow holding up ? Planning to visit next week. Can I expect some powder ?

was 15C in Squamish yesterday and is currently 5C on the peak. https://whistlerpeak.com/temps/
14mm of rain at Pig Alley. 1 cms of snow. Was well above freezing all day and night
We had Blackcomb backcountry all to ourselves today and it was so much better than expected!! Pow pow.
Not sure if they'll open Glacier or Spanky's tomorrow with significant avy debris on the ski out.
Have a couple photos but just couldn’t figure out how to post them even referring to the FAQ.
Damn, so the 2 day edge card I got in November, but am not using til this weekend is going to cost me an extra $100 now?![]()
You might want to check the date on that...
^lol. Yeah no goods crossing the border, you're buying a service in Canada and using it in Canada.
A Mr. Alan J. Erickson had this letter published in Pique:
Who pissed in his cornflakes?Vail Resorts asked me for a review. This is it.
Boombox music at the base of Creekside, Big Red, and Crystal lifts accompanied by singing and dancing DJ/lift operators is safety-disconcerting at worst and a total annoyance at best. I thought I was going skiing, not to a nightclub! The competing blaring music between the Red Chair base and the Raven’s Nest is a cacophony of noise distracting from the skiing experience. Not to mention waking up the bears out of their sweet hibernations.
Your approach here is unsustainable and an insult to the sport. Get your act together! And while you’re at it groom both Upper & Lower Peak to Creek more often—so many times I’ve talked to your Epic-Passeurs who are so disappointed in their trips here because they couldn’t ski the best-known run on the mountain.
Really, how much could doing this negatively impact your craven shareholders?
Personally I like the music. He probably has a point with Peak to Creek, but I recognize that that's got to be a resource intensive run to groom and would mean less grooming elsewhere.
So, when I go skiing I usually have some sort of foil-wrapped chocolates in my pocket, and toss 'em out to people who seem to have good vibes or just generally look like they might want a treat. The liftys at Whistler with the big JBL boxes with the tunes cranked got tossed a chocolate every time. I hope they never stop.
P2C does need to be groomed once in a while more often though, that is certain. They could close the lower portion and groom it during the day here and there if they really wanted to. I remember being a kid at Whistler back in the late 80's early 90's and seeing groomers out and about during regular operating hours. Guess they must've ran over someone once, got sued, and don't do that anymore.
Keep the music, ditch whoever wrote the review.
