    Tent pole elastic cord replacement

Kelty tent is still kicking just fine after 2 decades.
But the cords are toast on the support poles.
    What’s my best bet here?

Buy some at your local climbing shop or REI.

I've done it. It wasn't a big deal.

If the original cord is still there you can tape it to the new one and thread it through the sections.

Lots of places sell the cord.

The boy scouts around here used to offer a tent repair service. That might be an option.

I’d check with Kelty to see what they say. But The Tortoise has a good plan.

Black Diamond had replacements when my old BD tent elastic cord blew out.

Easy job, although they didn't show using the old cord to thread the new which can save time. 1/8" shock cord is usually available in a big hunk or by the foot at outdoor stores. If you need thinner cord (unlikely for an older Kelty) you may need to go to a more specialty source.

Don't be like me and think "Ah, I can get by one trip with the old stretched out cord, my tent holds the pole together in tension." While true, it is a PITA assembling the pole, as you have to stuff the old stretched cord inside to get all the sections together.

In person shops seem less likely to carry that stuff these days, I’ve found stuff like it at seattlefabrics , sailrite , amd duckworks

yes, his question was answered, but these are places that have been around and supply it and similar stuff for repairing your own stuff
