The area in general. Chipman and TAM can be accessed w/out a car from Midd, and there are various trail networks in Bristol yoy can drive to. The silver lake access (10 mins from Midd) gives you lots of woic ride options with more going in.
And the gravel/road riding around Midd and Bristol is killer.

    Thanks, that's really helpful.

It's funny, I ended up in my current town as I interviewed for a job out here, then took an extra day to ride the nearby trail network and liked the town it was in. But then I had a definite transition phase where I really missed the forest and dirt that isn't super dry. Now I've really gotten used to desert riding and would have a hard time giving up the trails out here with their scope, year round availability (though only for short, early rides in the summer), and options for sheer nasty challenge if so desired. I do love riding bikes in the woods though.

And in the end, those bastards didn't offer me the job! Apparently they felt a woman wanting to move back to the area was "the safer option for a successful search" apparently. Apparently they didn't hear me talk about Snowbowl...

Actually I was totally cool with it. Middlebury was somewhere that I absolutely think I'd have liked living, so it was worth applying, but I really like where I am and wasn't super keen to leave the West and current job. I liked it enough, though, that it would have been a hard choice had they offered it to me, so at least this was the one option that left me with no regrets.

Thanks everyone for all the info in any case!

As much as I liked the idea of you moving to VT, it wasn't meant to be.

Wish it had turned out differently. Sometimes what we want isn’t really what we need. Sounds like status quo is going to work out for you.
