    Sacramento River Path Safe?

I’ll be in town for a work conference and want to go for some evening runs. I’m staying next to the river, roughly where the red star is. What’s the homeless/drug situation in this area?

I’d say it’s not too bad. I’m not an expert though and don’t know your risk tolerance.

You’ll run into some homeless. Mostly harmless

Concur. If you follow the American River trail, you'll be fine. Lots of runners and cyclists depending on the time of day.

Don't wander off into the bushes to investigate if you hear noises. Let the sleeping bum lie.

I stayed in the Delta King one year for the wine show and walked back-and-forth to the convention center and assorted restaurants for four nights. No biggee.
We did see a skunk though.

I actually stayed right there (Embassy Suites) a few years back for a long wedding weekend. We ran south from the hotel on the American River trail, as well as, east into the state capitol area and ran along the American River more north maybe where the capital city fwy crosses it (had a rental car).

The north section (where the river runs east to west) was by far the best section and most scenic. Mostly trail running.

Running around old town, didn't feel particularly unsafe, but there are definitely zombies. Seemed worse as you head towards the state capital from old town. We mainly were out during the day and also had a one-year child with us. All that said, one night while we were staying there, someone was shot on the street near our hotel and then stumbled into the lobby of the hotel before the ambulance/police arrived. So we woke up to police tape and lobby chair and carpet getting a deep clean.

So exercise caution, but overall you should be fine.

Old Town had issues, but they seem to have been reduced. Not a hell of a lot there worthwhile , except The Firehouse restaurant and the Railroad Museum. The rest is shlock

Lobby of a hotel in downtown Birmingham Alabama.
My friend, in his jogging clothes: "Which way would be a good way to go for a run?"
Bell Captain: "Suh, Ah don't recommend you run in any dye-rection. I recommend you run back up to yah room."

Bell Captain probably just commenting because even *they* know that running is dumb.

I’m used to zombies so all good there. Quite the turn of events with someone getting shot, I’ll try and avoid that. Appreciate the intel.

You should be able to find both adequate drugs and homeless persons for a great time! Enjoy!
