Vapor barrier system, like next to skin thin latex gloves, works great for helping keep hands warm when it’s cold. Worn under insulated gloves. Bonus is that they eliminate sweat getting into the glove insulation. Sweaty insulation will lead to cold hands. Also, the vapor barrier will minimize drying out of your hands and cuticles that results from wearing insulated gloves in dry weather.

Not a lot of steeps open due to slide for life conditions but I managed to find really enjoyable skiing under Oly Lady, 3 Trees, Skiers right of CII bowl (all that was open), and upper Red Dog chair line steeps. I rarely saw anyone else in these zones so add another reason why I love skiing at this place.
Right of Cornice Bowl is some of the best skiing on the mountain IMO. I was sad they took out CB2--it was a nice option for days when Headwall was closed.

I have some OR mittens that have not failed me on the rare occasions I wear them around here. It'll be a cold day in hell--literally--when I have to wear vapor barriers under my mittens around here. On cold days I carry glove liners for playing with my boots etc but I haven't had to wear them under the mittens. As powdork says--go roomy for cold weather gloves and mittens.

Mashed - I like the Free the Powder gloves I have. Rarely use them because they are so warm. This is a leather pair with short cuff and a thick removable liner. My wife likes her mittens. We really only use these when it's very cold out. I think I wore them one or two days in December this year.

Best gloves = Hat, scarf, extra layer(s), down jacket, and bump runs. If the core isn't warm, the fingers and toes have no chance. Close all the vents and cinch all the cuffs. Interweave layers at the waist. Modern jackets seem to have monstrous necks, so maybe two scarves to seal the neck. Hand warmers in the inside pocket of fleece midlayer helps too, though I either don't carry them or forget I have them. Sometimes on the lift, I also pull my fingers back and make a fist in the palm of the glove, and wiggle my toes.

Seems like there ought to be some electric glove and sock options with all the fancy high power batteries these days. I was never impressed by the old D-cell socks - wearing a hat worked better.

Also- what is happening in LA is really an urban fire for the most part. So it’s more about property management and policy on a micro level, multiplied.
Totally agree that the problem with forestry goes back 100 years however that just made it more critical that we started to intensively address it over the last decade or two instead of trying to pretend that it didn’t exist. That’s like saying climate change and green house emissions go back a 100 years so we pretend that they don’t exist and don’t hold ourselves responsible for fixing it. Oh wait…

Now let it snow or at least warm up for a Junuary until the next snowfall. Odd to be having discussions about warm gloves in a Tahoe thread.

Correct. Look at the spacing between houses in the Palisades fire area. There is no a way to defend that if there is much wind.

Yeah, sweat is my issue and then I get cold hands. Kinco 1927s work well as they're breathable. But when it's colder or snowing/wet snow, I have a pair of Dakine mitts with a zipper so I can vent them when needed. Also throw a glove liner on sometimes too under the mitt.

Ditto glove liners. My hands usually run warm but this weekend I could have used slightly warmer gloves than my usual thin ones I use in Tahoe.

I scored these at Costco last season for like $30.
They have been plenty warm for most extra cold days at The Star.
(I got tired of spending $200 on Hestras, so most of my glove arsenal is either Kinco or Wells Lamont, though I gotta find and get some mittens from both of those brands…).

Kinco mitts separate the fingers internally which I don't like so much. I assume it's for dexterity, but idk. Maybe they've update the design. I used to sell their gloves so I've tried many of what they sell.

    Late afternoon on Sunset.

Heard there was a fatality on Ramsey’s last week.

the SB groomers were nice today. The wind died. Watching some good park skiers under Lincoln was entertaining.
IMO that ice layer will be impervious to softening if we get Junuary conditions in the next few days, even S facing.. Hope I'm wrong.

Ash is definitely rideable, just be sure to clean it out of the gouges in your base before waxing.

    Oh wait, nevermind

Ditto. Was able to find some soft snow last weekend on North facing slopes. Good to know it is still there.

As usual in winter, Ash is not great (frozen mud, lots of ice) but Indian Hills to Clear Ck is riding pretty well. Sly Park is good
