I agree. Somehow I think there will be no issues plowing the roads to Homewood and the new proposed private community.

Of course we know how to plow the roads in a reasonable amount of time. All it takes is money. Lot's of it. In case you hadn't noticed, a plow driver can't afford to live up where the snow is. And BTW have you noticed that there's a connection between all that snow we love to ski in all that snow we hate to drive in. Waiting for the plow is part of life up here.

Noting that there were two different vehicles overturned on the Mount Rose Highway this morning. One right off the road just below the usual BC parking area. The other looked like it was way down the embankment just below the upper vista point on the west side of MRH. Law enforcement and emergency personnel were there for about three hours. I think I saw you out there Mikey...

My favorite seasons start with a 3' dump and then we never see more than a foot over night but still accumulate 25" a week through mid winter. And then maybe some deep days come April when everyone down here has written off the winter and moved on to other things. We had one of those 9 years ago or so and I skied empty mountains with great conditions a lot.

See my post about Homewood. We are saying the same thing. It’s all about the money and willingness to spend it to uphold a basic standard of living. And there is no shortage of money in this country.

The articles are specific to El Dorado county. Homewood is in placer. Plow drivers can afford to live up here. Many do. The problem is El Dorado is offering way less than Caltrans and/or the City of SLT. The folks in trouble are those that are only serviced by county plows. And even then it probably won’t affect those of us up in this part of the county (north of emerald bay) since Caltrans and SLT aren’t as viable options for employment if at all.

I'm with you on this. That's an ideal season. Fresh pow all the time, nothing so big that roads and resorts don't open for days, and definitely nothing so big it's roof crushing.

You are missing the point. El Dorado county is not a poor county. Medium income is around $100k compared to $110k for Placer. I just don’t understand how they can’t “afford” to pay for snow plows.

Also, Homewood may be in Placer County, but the private Homewood resort would have access to far more than just Placer County’s funds. Of course, the private resort would just put friendly politicians in high level positions in Placer County and have the rest of the county pay for the extra services for the private resort. Either way I guarantee the private resort would have their roads plowed on time.

I assume they’ll be paying property taxes like everyone else and will get service like everyone else. If that’s not good enough they can always contract someone to do it or get their own plows. Neither is uncommon

Lol You new? There is no parking in Nevada. Minus Stagecoach and boulder, the only public-as in not private property-parking is the courthouse which is no where near the hill or a shuttle. Everything else is no parking you might get a ticket

There are a few free spots at Harrahs and sometimes the Dotty's lot. You could probably trade some heroin for a spot at Dotty's

that second crash was a bad one according to a firefighter we knew who was on scene

I was on my “new” Fischer Ranger 102 - great ski

rolled with some folks from work and ran into a couple customers on their new gear I helped them with - always cool to see stoked customers

It's not a question of govt not spending the money. The govts are spending all the money they get. The way to get more plowing is to vote for a plowing parcel tax. The problem isn't the govt, it's people's willingness to pay for govt services.

In Truckee Tahoe Donner pays Truckee extra for more frequent plowing and road maintenance. They call it a Town Service Area--the only one in Truckee, and it's a holdover from County Service Areas which was a system where new developments had to pay extra, beyond their regular property taxes, to receive services older areas received without extra fees. Truckee did away with those when it incorporated, except for the TD TSA, which provides extra service, above the level other parts of town receive.

The plow drivers I know who live up here are long time locals so not affected by the recent surge in home prices and lack of rentals.

There certainly is a problem shared by Truckee, NLT, the West Shore and SLT--all are big revenue generators for their counties but have only one supervisor each, so development is encouraged to generate more revenue while the supes are reluctant to spend on infrastructure and services.
I would love to see a county remapping, creating a single Tahoe Country incorporating Nevada, Placer, and El Dorado from the near the crest to the Nevada state line. There is a process. Maybe there's someone out there with the energy and charisma to start to make it happen.

All good points. In a democracy the government is supposed to be the people. By that standard, if the money is there then it is a failure of the government/people to allocate it. How the allocation happens (remapping, more taxes, Elon pays for it etc.) is less important than our inability to come together and find a solution.

I'd buy some cheap cables to throw in the back if you want to really be on it. A bucket of sand will generally get more use than chains.

It was kinda tongue-in-cheek, I've been on this board as long as you have and yeah I guess the Boulder lot but what a pain..

I didn't even try to park at Cal side last year once so not much recent experience but it still seems to me there is nowhere near enough capacity without legal street parking.. Do they intend for everyone else to park at the Gondola lots (and hope there isn't a light breeze to close it down?).

If you look at Vail’s financials the trend is less total visitors at the resort with each visitor spending more money once there. Let’s see if Vail shuts down a lot of parking and then increases the price of paid pricing to continue that trend.

Not a lot of gondola parking and what’s there is, is paid parking, there is essentially no free parking anymore, raileys, parking garage, casinos all paid now. Gonna be interesting to see peoples reactions the first big weekend and find out you can’t even park on ski run anymore, my guess is very few people know about the new parking regulations. And when the winds blow and the gondola shuts down the lines for the limited number of buses running between bases gets out of hand.

I think they coined the term ‘wallet retention’ at a placer co meeting not long ago. We are all fighting that concept.

Looks like Kirkwood was the winner again. If tomorrow was Dec. 6 they’d be pretty stoked.

The gate to Barker pass is now closed at Hwy 89. Last year it closed Dec. 2nd. Backup plan was Rose summit

Looking good. A bit sad the family decide to head to the desert next week instead of the mountains. Looks like a great touring with more on the way.
