The corn on the backside of the backside of PT is very good until the arctic chill arrives.

Bosch, stay out of the sun and in gullies is the trick right now at KW.

Rabbits, Jim's, Fireball and lower Chan were all good last Sunday. Not like actually good but a lot of fun on a sub 100 waist.

Best snow I found on 10 was that gully lookers right on the face into Waterfall and then out to the groomer before getting too low.

Thunder Saddle (two man, one man) had really fun snow.

We even found half turns of powder every one in a long while. Okay, maybe that was facets, but fun.

I'm sure the cold air coming in today will lock all that shit back up tho.

Finally some things of interest in the forecast for next weekend and the week after. Fingers crossed they don't fade away.

Tahoe '24/'25 - This Thread Shall Not Be Privatized!!

Mag-amigo jrf recently introduced me to a new phrase, which I love: Exploration without Expectation. It's become a bit of a mantra.

Don't tell me this town ain't got no pow...

...just gotta poke around... (waaayyyy around)

    Also, shred-friends are the best:

And if you get tired of poking, just go schralp high-speed groomers, which are somehow amazingly perfect while off-piste sits just adjacent, angry and menacing.

maybe you had too much too fast..

I had a feeling things were gonna be meager after that big November storm but at least it laid down the base and it's not as bad as 2014.. I haven't gone skiing for 3 weeks I just post on TGR now.

Cold but pretty fun today. Been mostly on piste. Pleasantly surprised that the little bit of new snow is sticking. Granted, I took the time to flatten base, sharpen/polished edges.

Still snowing on the Nevada side of Heavenly. Low angle terrain skiing like a foot of fresh. Thank you Ullr

Kirkwood was pretty good today. Boot top pow in the right gully aspects. Glad I had a jacket though.

My son had a race at Diamond Peak today and it was pretty damn chilly. They did get around 6 inches and skied well in spots over the ice rink.

Mt Rose backcountry had over a foot of what might have been the lightest snow I've ever skied in Tahoe. Absolute blower, which made for the type of skiing that looked far greater (all-time, really) than it was (decent; you were hitting the bottom below most of the time). The best/deepest areas were sheltered spots lower down, where you'd have the occasional bottomless, perfect, in-your-face turn that leaves you smiling and stoked for the rest of the day. Looks like next weekend and beyond looks active so hopefully we've put the dry spell behind us.

Tried to attach a few pics but it’s not letting me …

Also went to rose bc yesterday. I think it was the deepest pow I’ve ever skied and still be skiing on the base. The south faces were filled in by the winds out of the north but some of the base wasn’t snow or ice.
And the disco biscuits were a nice topper

I saw some pics on Strava, from Tamarack today, that were drool-worthy. I think I'll check it out tomorrow. Today I went to Alpine. Figured I'd check out Promised Land, even though no one else seemed to be going that way, and it was quite nice, well, the upper half anyway.

Prepare to be underwhelmed. Every step you take away from the parking there is less snow. The cutoff from east to west was dramatic and there was definitely more snow at lower elevations. I skied the sub peak just south and east of tamarack and it was barely meh. The low angle glades heading back to the trailhead were much better. With the snow you’ll be skiing I could definitely see someone getting good pics but if there was video (there will be soon) it would be loud pow.

No prob, last few days I’ve gone out prepared for suckage, and (okay aside from Saturday) I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

Regardless of what I said, it’s still the best option. I would be going back tomorrow if I didn’t make plans to meet people at alpine. I would maybe opt for the low angle lines down to galena creek. Lower angle and lower elevation were better
I spoke to guy that just finished Fireplug and he was not impressed
