They posted about the outage yesterday, their servers got overloaded. They suggested clearing browser cache if it’s still not loading

The High Route is such a good resource for touring and touring gear. I wasn’t sure if they had much traction so good to see people discussing them. It kind of reminds me of what I wanted Blister to be.

What do you mean about Blister? They don’t take touring gear seriously and that’s a shame, but they are the only English language website that with any kind of analytical ski gear reviews. They aren’t perfect but they are light years ahead of anyone else. The High Route has a ways to go but I hope they get there.

I’m starved for skiing related content and so appreciate anyone that can deliver it to me on a regular basis. That said, Blister often seem like they’re exceeding their actual experience in an attempt to be authoritative to an audience that can’t tell the difference, and are a bit too obsessed with being part of the “cool” crowd for my taste. Whereas the High Route comes across as a bunch of dudes that regularly do adventures on skis and just like geeking about gear (obviously a bit of self projection there). I think it’s obvious what the more profitable business model is, but I’m glad the High Route are still doing what they do.

Not to mention Blister going the route of insurance salesmen of late. Every podcast has 2-3 minutes about Blister+ and getting more insurance through them. Also they're slowly taking away more and more features from normal Blister subscribers to push people into buying Blister+...

The High Route (THR) is Awesome. They are doing a great job catering to the human powered skier and ski alpinist. I appreciate that they are trying to be "everything to someone rather than something for everyone" to paraphrase Jason Albert. Just go read the THR article "Skiing: A review" - that's a whole other level compared to gear reviews we might want but don't need.

To be clear, I'm not commenting on Blister or comparing THR to Blister. They are vastly different media models and presumably user bases. I'm agnostic on Blister; THR will continue to get my yearly subscription fee.

Totally fair, Blister does good work still and we are lucky that they exist. I guess The High Route has just been such a breath of fresh air for me that I couldn't help but draw the comparison. I think that for me personally they are more relatable in terms of the skiing that they do and their mentality towards skiing.

My criticism of THR is that their reviews aren’t any more informative than info I could glean from talking to friends on the skin track or in the ski shop. Blister goes deeper but that takes more work, and it also probably takes a lot more runs on the skis which only chairlifts can provide, so maybe my expectations are too high. I do appreciate a site by and for backcountry skiers and wish them the best.

    high route hacked?

THR content definitely is geared towards people like me (/us) which i find can be lacking elsewhere so its been absolutely awesome. i had no hesitation subbing when i first saw it advertised and who was involved. especially after wildsnow got bought and cripplecreek stopped doing their podcast.

ill def keep supporting but hoping in the future:
    - the magazine shipping to canada is cheaper (i passed this time as is it doubled the zine price)
    - podcast gets alot tighter (ill keep listening, liking the interviews, but needs more structure especially for the gear shed ones; i honestly think they could get even more nerdy/in depth as the last one on 2-buckle+ boots was all over the place)
    - gear reviews get more detailed, have more snazzier formatting of ski specs and profile (agree with above that sometimes feels like it lacks authority/anything really novel/anything bad to say)

    - they keep up the long form content!

I like both THR and blister, they complement eachother well - THR bc only, and blister I feel is barely backcountry. (So many of their quivers are only cast or shift for bc which seems crazy for like 4-5 skis!)
I do think blisters podcasts are much more professional - like they’ve mapped out the convo in advance. THR is sometimes just guys talking and can end up (for example) of each person going into detail on their own boot’s fit which isn’t all that relevant beyond say general low volume.
I really need to subscribe to both- only hesitation is that it will likely result in me buying more shit.

THR has taken the torch from WildSnow. The writing is good and the people know what they're talking about. The tech/alpinism knowledge of some of their writers is at an elite level, too. I'm really glad they exist, because nowhere else can you find good touring gear information except maybe this site (where you have to sift through long threads) and random comments on skimo.co (which can be hard to trust)
