So about that DNA data in 23 and Me….

    https://www.theatlantic.com/health/a...y-sale/680057/

Last week, the entire board of directors quit, save for Anne Wojcicki, a co-founder and the company’s CEO. Amid this downward spiral, Wojcicki has said she’ll consider selling 23andMe—which means the DNA of 23andMe’s 15 million customers would be up for sale, too.
DNA might contain health information, but unlike a doctor’s office, 23andMe is not bound by the health-privacy law HIPAA. And the company’s privacy policies make clear that in the event of a merger or an acquisition, customer information is a salable asset. 23andMe promises to ask its customers’ permission before using their data for research or targeted advertising, but that doesn’t mean the next boss will do the same. It says so right there in the fine print: The company reserves the right to update its policies at any time. A spokesperson acknowledged to me this week that the company can’t fully guarantee the sanctity of customer data, but said in a statement that “any scenario which impacts our customer's data would need to be carefully considered. We take the privacy and trust of our customers very seriously, and would strive to maintain commitments outlined in our Privacy Statement.”

Certain parties might take an obvious interest in the secrets of Americans’ genomes. Insurers, for example, would probably like to know about any genetic predispositions that might make you more expensive to them.

Private information is an illusion in modern society. Once the ai gets a little more mature it'll be obvious to everyone.

Biosyn thanks you for your genetic information.
    All Biosyn data is proprietary.
To make your life easier Biosyn will be making multiple copies of you!
Upon the likely recall of Biosyn proprietary products for genetic upgrades we understand that most, if not all, copies will believe they have originated their original source code.

But, as noted, all Biosyn data and products are proprietary.
Biosyn thanks you for your genetic information.

    Have a nice day.

The biggest issue is how many people are involuntarily impacted because someone in their family sent off DNA.

Like the article said, that's very useful information for private insurers.

Either you find out you are who you think you are, or you get an unpleasant surprise, like your real father is a rapist doing life. Why get tested?

Life and disability insurers and insurers pharmaceutical companies. GINA fed law doesn’t allow health insurers to use generic info to set premiums.

Back when Obama was president I had some right wing family members that sent their DNA to 23 and me.

I asked them hypothetically if the Obama Administration had showed up at their door asking for a DNA sample would they have voluntarily given it to them. They answered “HELLO NO!”.

And turned right around and paid $89 to a private company…….

That’s how we are. We would fucking freak out if we had a CCTV system the way the British go about it. Yet we gladly pay our hard earned money to be surveyed by our own ring door cams. More cameras here than there ever was there.

Along the same lines, I saw an article saying these test showed a shockingly high rate of inbreeding.
