    Heritage Lab AM 100

Oh sh*t! Just bought 182 Rossi Black Ops 98's cause I needed a 100 mm ski….still unmounted whew!

I’m gonna have to get this ski, the email from HL is drool worthy.....”stiff, flattish camber, neutral drifts, clean carves....deep rocker, -6ish cm mount”...f'ing perfect.

    THE MASTER OF ALL TRADES

Never settle. The AM100 brings HL's unique spin on a modern freeride ski to a more playful shape and modern mount point. A subtle near-flat camber pocket adds to the smooth ride and clean edge precision. Carefully crafted rocker lines bring a loose ride in untracked snow and grant plenty of confidence in crud and variable snow.

    130-100-122

    20mR @ 180cm, 21.5mR @ 187cm

22cm taper tip and 18cm tail taper deliver neutral drifts and clean carves.

7cm tip height and 4cm tail height ensure a surfy yet engaged ride overall.

Near-flat 1.5mm camber pocket ensures clean edge purchase with a balanced and intuitive off-edge feel in variable and challenging snow conditions. Ski has a huge sweet spot and suits many ski styles

Traditional Mount: -8cm behind center (85.25cm from tail @ 187cm and 81.75cm from tail at 180cm)

Modern Mount: -6cm behind center (87.25cm from tail @ 187cm and 84cm from tail at 180cm)

    Target weight ~2100gm @ 180cm, ~2200gm @ 187cm

Mid-stiff flex pattern (8 out of 10 stiffness)
    Bomber UHMW sidewalls
Ultra-smooth fiberglass layup and full-width VDS Rubber
    Bamboo / Poplar wood core
Extra hard and fast black race base
Delivered with shape-specific hand preparation, 1.5deg base + 2deg side edges, & cold snow base prep
Heritage Lab recommends 4.1mm bit + tap on all of our skis

Developed with HL's new "AM" rocker profile with a very low camber pocket, deep rocker lines, and a more modern mount point, this ski is optimized to bring peak maneuverability and playfulness to a narrower waist width.

Many of my favorite skis have had close to these dimensions and radius. Anyone know what model the flex pattern is based on?

If I'm not mistaken, the AM100 is the same build as the R110. I think I read that somewhere, but I don't want to speak for MO.

Regardless, this will likely, and finally, dethrone my OG Gotama. Even the M102 failed to do that. Sure, the M102 carved soft groomers better than my Gotama, but it didn't ski general soft snow better. That was kind of insane to me. 20 years of tech just failed to deliver.

I've always said-- "I wish my Gotama was ~5mm narrower underfoot with a few less meters of radius." And now, these numbers are that, and with a touch of rocker in front and rear. And, let's not forget to mention a legit core.

The AM100, on paper, looks like the ski the Gotama always wanted to be.

I don't know why Volkl was so scared to make it. No metal. 130-100-122, r21ish, Just a simple, burly wood core, a sheet of fiberglass, and a touch of rocker on both ends. It's such a simple ski.

Some compared it to Wizard Explosive. I compare it to Gotama. I also called the M102 a Gotama 2. I think this AM100 is the name it deserves-- AM100.

    Finally. Thank you, HL.

Droooooool..... These look like west coast freeride daily weapons.

Sizing? 6' 160lbs. I usually ski 184-186 on my daily drivers. Size up?

    ???

All we talk about anymore related to ON3P is new graphics and very little about the actual skis. Too bad.

I dig what MO and HL are doing. Give every model its own thread. Excited for my FR110’s. Look forward to comparing them to my new Jeffery 110’s. [emoji12]

They are pretty similar to my woodsman 110. A bit more torsionally stiff though.

Stirring the pot over here, we have 2 months to go. I’m just messing around.

A decade ago On3p hype was unreal on here, and it seems like HL is in the growth phase towards that. Coming soon. I’m already thinking about all the skis I need to sell so I can get more HL for 2025. Drooling over HB122s currently.

I was lucky enough to put 5 good laps on FR110s last January and they blew me away. I had to have them, like how I felt with 2015 Billy Goats. The FR felt like more fun but similarly versatile 2012-2014 Katanas. I skied the FR110s back to back with Katana 108s, and FRs didn’t lose much stability, gained more fun, and kept the versatility just skewing it more towards soft snow. FRs were surprisingly good at carving soft groomed, and they felt like all mountain soft snow tools. Ridiculously intuitive, was instantly confident on hero skis feeling. The “Tony Hawk Pro Skater” feel of the FRs almost fills the role of the Skinny-Billy Goat feel I’ve been seeking for a decade…except with the ability to carve and overall way more versatile.

You’re gonna love them! Good luck with the Jeffs too.

Onto the main subject. 193 AM100s seem like a perfect replacement for my 191 M4 Mantras. I wonder if 193 R105s are a bit much for mogul daily driving, although I also want those for other reasons too. The AM100 seems like the bump ripper now though.

Did you go ripper on the 110? I'm excited to have both the R110 and the Ripper 110 in the stable this year.

Been answering some email inquiries this AM, thought a few replies would be helpful here.

    COMPARING THE 105s, 110, and AM100

    Backgorund

    - R105 and FL105: mount -11 +/-1 and have high 20's turn radius. Low reverse/near flat camber (R) and more conventional camber (FL)

    - R110: mount -7.5ish and have mid 20's turn radius. Low reverse camber

    - Am100: mount -7 +/-1 and have low 20's turn radius. low/short camber pocket with extended low rockers tip/tail

Damping on very hard or rough snow

    • AM100 (at normal person speeds and terrain)
    • FL105 (these win at freeway speeds or comp venue terrain\)
    • R105 (Not that far off from the FL105 at all, but due to the reverse, more energy is concentrated into the feet vs. the ends of the skis)
    • R110 (still as smooth as just about any other ski out there, but a step less so than the others above due mostly to extra width)

Edge engagement from easy (1) to more technical / demanding (4)

    • AM100
    • FL105
    • R110
    • R105 (by a whisker, simply due to bigger turn radius, but overall very similar to the R110)

    Stability at very high speeds

    • FL105
    • R105
    • AM105
    • R110 (similar to the AM100, but needs a touch more piloting on very hard snow straightlines

Maneuverability in technical terrain/ease in challenging or variable snow

    • R110
    • AM100
    • R105
    • FL105

Playfulness aka "party" (1) vs Directionality aka "business" (4)

    • AM100
    • R110
    • R105
    • FL105

REGARDING A POSSIBLE "R100" reverse camber type version:

In testing the possibility of a reverse 100mm ski width, I didn't love the concentration of forces underfoot on a narrower ski that was reverse. I know it's been done in the past, but I wasn't in love with the tradeoffs for what I was going for. The AM100 has essentially the same splay tip/tail wide points as the R110, with just enough camber/near-flat underfoot to spread forces out to the ends of the ski. I find this to be less of a consideration on fatter skis, but at this waist width, it was important to make the ski ride super smooth on firmer surfaces and roll up on edge more naturally since you can access the edge quicker on a narrower ski vs a fat ski.

Man these have me second guessing my fl105s. The 105s are awesome when up to speed but don’t like going slow, how much top end do these give up?

I think I know the feels. I love the M4 Mantras for moguls, but they can feel greasy at speed on top of smooth firm snow. I definitely feel that I cannot distribute the forces into the tips and tails of the ski.

The AM100 seems great. My only question is might there be a 19Xcm length coming next year?

If we can get 8-10 people to commit on the spring preorder, I'd be happy to make them.

I'd say maybe 75% overlap on the Venn Diagram give or take? Less about speed, but more about skiing down the fall line vs. finishing turns across it - and mostly due to different mount locations (ie -7ish vs -11ish).

So is this the conclusion of the HL shadowfax "ultimate dad ski" development that got posted a couple of times last spring?
