The problem with cool places is they are full of cool people. You gotta choose a bit of suck to keep it real and be able to afford it. And if you think you are ahead of the curve and find your spot, heads up. The cool people will come your way.

If you allow people to weaponize their political views again you, they win. I say bring it. Monoculture and behind surrounded only by people like you because it makes you feel comfortable is stupid.

Put what makes you happy first, that could be skiing, or living situation. If you’re not happy now, it’s always a gamble to move. At least you’ll have deepmdays if the rest doesn’t go as planned. Priorities.

I just bailed on a slc move, my buyer didn’t come up with their loan. But I was never a fan of slc, but I thought of housing, business. Plan 2, will be mtn high somewhere, medium size resort, no vail bs.

Flagstaff, maybe, or Sedona, cause my mom’s near. Good hikes on backside, side country, then t ride and Utah a few times per yr.

Seen a lot of threads on TRG over the years by people who dream of moving, but will never move. Usually the ones who actually do move don't announce it first.

    Nothing wrong with dreaming though.

I don’t mind the mix of sociopolitical views where I live. It’s pretty evenly split between liberal and conservative. The community doesn’t seem to suffer, quite the contrary, it’s thriving. I don’t think I could handle living in a resort community. It feels fake in resort mountain towns.

Agree. One night a week at Big Sky (two days of skiing) is enough for me. I enjoy the resort town party atmosphere for a night but am happy to GTFO and back to a real town.

Not anymore. Housing prices are through the freaking roof, MDU’s popping up like crazy, planning commission can fuck themselves for that. Traffic is a shit show. All the douchebag assholes from the coastlines seem to be moving here.

Putting too much stress on infrastructure due to way too many people moving in too quickly. We are so far behind on infrastructure that it’s not even funny. Roads can’t handle the traffic, water and sewer, schools etc.

    I need out…

My comment above was an FYI. Maybe you dig that shit.
Also being an older guy I remember when we used to be able to have a discussion about Federal rights versus State rides or other Republican versus Democrat, conservative versus progressive viewpoints. Now I swear, I talk to some of these folks and they’re like waiting for a Civil War. It’s they don’t seem to be able to disagree.
OK, this actually isn’t that hard. Find a small, (no college, ski lifts), town with mountains nearby, and check it out. Go a on a road trip. Oh yeah, climb to ski.

Why no college? You'll at least have a few decent watering holes and some live music. Maybe even a little diversity. I stopped in Pocatello this past weekend on the way to Driggs and had a great lunch in a small brewery that let us bring our dog inside. Idaho State kids were starting to trickle in. Nice little downtown.

Ironically, one of the reasons people moved to CDA/Sandpoint from the coasts is to escape those high liberal taxes and goddamn regulation. What pays for the very much needed infrastructure upgrades and who plans and builds it??? Anyone? Anyone?

If you dont mind HEAVILY contaminate water, id suggest a cheap little town in Washington thats about 20mins from, what i would consider, a world class ski resort/area.

You want under the radar before it’s found out.

Just to clarify, Cono has for years talked about his days in the mountains. Meanwhile he backs that up by shitting on all those people that actually managed to make a life for it in the mountains.

Now he has to opportunity to come to the mountains he dreams about and will once again fail to do that. Dude, I don’t mean to shit on you but it’s on you. Just fucking do it, don’t worry about all the other shit, just do it.

My sister lives out on the beach by the Sisters and all her neighbors are 65 year old dudes with great tans making off color jokes and drinking at 10am.

Some damn cheap boating. Membership at the Elks and boat slip for like pennies compared to anywhere else.
