    I need out…

I need to find a place to move to. There isn’t a thing I can’t do with my hands. Have forestry and horticulture degrees. I need the west and the mountains or maybe deep Maine. Just need to find a place to go away from vermont. Job in construction would be key and some reasonable housing near a place to make deep turns. Needs to be pet friendly

Working construction in Idaho Falls would certainly have you mingling with the best and the brightest.

the ratio of assholes to non-assholes is fairly consisitant in our population nationwide... we just have more people concentrated in a smaller area on the east coast, which makes our assholes easier to spot and contributes to the perception of vastly greater numbers of assholes.

Job, powder, affordable housing...I think in the mountain west we may be down to "Pick One".

It sounds like you want and need to do it so you should do it. That said, your success is gonna depend in large part on having a grasp on reality.

1bd. apartments that take dogs are hard to find. Think $2k and month and 30mins. to the lifts.

Casual lift served powder is a way more scare resource than it used to be. Many if not most places are pretty busy on the "good conditions" days. So think more 10-20 good days if you try than choking on it all the time like back in the day.

"Good with your hands" really doesn't cut it anymore from what I see. The all around good worker employed by GC model is kinda over. Unless you want to be the boss man, run your own jobs, have employees or subs and do supervision and management, the game really has changed to specialty skills.

I think you are and excavator/equipment operator? Do you have your CDL? Those skills a very much in demand. Residential excavation, heavy civil, municipal work, snow removal and so on. Those jobs start at about $30 in Grand County. In the short term paying the bills is the priority but there is tons of opportunity for those looking to build a skill set and be a kick ass tradesman.

I don't know your situation. If you have a bit of time and money and can go on a road trip and see kinda see what places speak to you that would be my suggestion.

    Yeah - you’ve got to make a sacrifice….

    Either

    - Plant yourself somewhere in the mountain west - non-ICON/EPIC - and try to make it work financially.

    Or

    - Chase the money. There’s a few construction sectors where money is flowing and a downturn is not likely: water treatment, electrical infrastructure, data centers, etc… Buy a trailer, chase that work throughout the west (NV, AZ, eastern WA and OR are hot rn), take weeks off between assignments to travel and get your skiing in.

^^^ I think Nick and foggy have it about right. Pick one, or chase the money.
Also, live near mountains and bc ski. Kind of like…pick a town off interstate 84 and have at.

Having worked construction just outside of Idaho Falls, I'd say you're not wrong. Sounds like Joey may be more of a commercial/residential guy, but one of the nice things about working at the site is the diversity it brings in. Since it's a DOE site I believe most of the labor is union, and to get in the union it seems like all you really need is a pulse, so good money to be had.

Interesting. Care to elaborate? If I had to choose I'd probably go IF over Pocatello.

To me, the only thing Pocatello has over IF from an activities standpoint is the proximity to/quality of biking and Pebble is only about a 30min drive. But I'd argue a lot of what is considered to be the nucleus of the region is more easily accessed from IF than Pocatello.

Sorry, brain fart - I was thinking of Twin Falls. Idaho Falls > Pocatello.

Leavenworth? Ffs, not even remotely affordable and completely overrun with tourons 10-11 months of the year. Has zero in common with your other suggestions. 30-45 minutes to Stevens depending on weather and road conditions. I don’t live there but live nearby. Even the locals can’t stand the town
